Is JT98ds really better than AKQJds?

Well versus each other bigger rundown wins but both hands are premium ones and work well in certain situation. E.g. if MP open, CO and BU call I will definitely prefer to 3bet with AKQJds as that has more nut potential which is important in likely multiway pot.

But if I 3bet in general and face 4bet I prefer to have most of time JT98ds as that will play better versus very AAxx heavy range.

Well I guess I'm really referring to all the "Top 30 Starting Hand" charts that put JT98 as the highest rundown hand. Makes no sense to me. They simply must be assuming heads-up.

Personally against AAxx I'd want the KQJT unless they also have broadway cards to go along with it.

The difference comes when somebody raises before you and you have JT98ds. You want to 3bet because you often "clear" your flush outs and your hand is so smooth that you can have a mindless aggression on so many boards. In a heads up pot with a low-ish SPR you can stack off with a pair + non-nut fd. If you call it preflop, theres a chance that a random A442ds can have your fd dominated.

On the opposite, AKQJ can be a call to invite people with hands like 8765ds to call and have their FDs dominated in a high SPR pot.

It's all about the SPR in PLO.

And of course, like ghaleon said, JT98ds play better vs AAxx and AKKx (in a 4bet pot or whatever). Versus a tight-ish opponent you may have to fold AKQJ to a 4bet.

Where does it say that JT98 is better than AKQJ?
