I've been leaning towards going pro and making a living off poker ever since my 2.3k USD win at the KK Poker 12k Warrior PKO about a month ago. Immediately after I went on a dry spell, played bad and lost a lot of money but I was not down and out. One day after taking some mental game coaching lessons from a couple pros on YouTube I took down a hyper turbo MTT for about $650 USD. This got my confidence back and I started playing good everyday but I was still not properly following BRM and took a huge $200 dip so I decided to take a shot at NL100 and walked away with a huge win and doubled my bankroll overnight. Made another final table in a $20 bounty tourney that same night..and things were back on track.
Last night I was having a great night, following BRM, as I have been since the NL100 shot, decided to retire for the night but couldn't sleep.
So I jump into a $15 Hyper Warrior. 5K GTD. I run good, play decently well and finish 2nd place for another $650 USD cash, increasing my bankroll to a point where I can play NL10 or 20 comfortably and buy into $10 MTT's everyday if I want to while still practicing good BRM.
I decided to go pro after that tournament performance. After the successful NL100 shot I decided that was a stupid decision even though it worked out that time, I've had many times I've gone broke trying to run it up. I won't make that mistake again and I'm crushing cash games & MTT's in both NL Holdem and PLO5 at the moment. Anywhere I go I'm winning and have made about 2K profit in the last month despite all the losses.
The last hitch to me making this decision was trying to figure out if I was just a degenerate gambler who got lucky a few times and would eventually go bust or someone who just made a few bad decisions, regrouped, took the proper coaching and now feel like I can actually take this game seriously and properly follow BRM even in downswings. I have proved to myself over the last few weeks I can do it and I feel safe now going full force with the decision. My skill level is obviously there..now it's time to let long term statistics take over.
I'm super happy with the way things have worked out and I definitely feel like this was meant to be as I have been studying poker now for over 18 years with no intention of ever becoming a pro.
We all gotta start somewhere.
Here's the video for those who want to see the 5K Hyper Warrior Final Table. It was nuts.
