I'm just wondering if anybody knows who first coined the term "donkey". I've just always wondered, if I had to guess I would probably say Mike Matasow.

Oh, you weren't speaking to me exclusively? 
In that case, as far as I can tell (was bored and interested to know myself). No-one really knows, although, it is highly refered to that Mike "The Mouth" Matesow (spelt summut like that :P) may of been the one who coined the term to poker.

I've searched the internet and I could not find an origin. All I could find is some definitions that it is most likely derived from the word fish... 
In my language a donkey is someone who's very stupid. I don't know if it has the same definition in English, but I would imagine it wouldn't be too strange to call the absolutely moron on the table a donkey.
