Hi dear poker people,

so according to the solution I'm looking at once we 4bet (to 27BBs) and face a 5bet we are supposed to shove 91% of hands. So basically once we 4bet we're almost always ripping it in.

So I understand it's pot odds plus the fact that our 4betting range is already high up there (top 6% or so).

Kind of just thinking out loud and curious about your input here.

If villain 3- and 5bets to wide or too nitty we can obviously exploit that.

But what if we think we have an edge on our opponent, BUT he is 3- and 5betting the correct frequencies AND also folding the correct frequencies, wouldn't we rather keep the SPR low and try to outplay him in 3bet pots than buidling a huge pot preflop?

I realize these are very general statements and we usually have to look at our specific villain. Just conceptually I wonder if you agree?

Thank you

There are hands that benefit a lot if most of the stack is put to the pot preflop, like AA. Good equity preflop, often horrible playability postflop. 4betting and shoving flop is quaranteed +EV move.

The real question is, should we 4bet non AAxx hands? To be honest, I am not so sure at small stakes. Even if our 4bet range is madevalue-heavy (AA, AKK), and opponent "knows" it, does it matter? Even if we 4bet more, probably almost all opponents play flop like we had AA. They think their equity versus AAxx.

If opponent is 3betting a lot, we can fight it in few different ways:
- tighter preflop, so we can call his 3bets more often with good hands
- increase aggression postflop in 3bet pots, meaning we bluff a lot
- start 4betting

Later two options increase variance a lot and they are hard to execute in +EV way. First one is the easiest.

That is for 6max. If we play HU, things change a lot. HU is VERY much playing against the opponent, and exploitin his tendencies. That should affect our 3bet/4bet game a lot.
