PLO Short stacking bankroll?

I would not recommend shortstacking for high rake games which these small stake games are. With deeper stacks you will be able to take greater advantages of population mistakes.

That's true, why win just 50bb when you can win much more.

Main benefit from shortstack comes (at least) theoretically from our low stack off threshold in 3bet pots. With 50bb there should not be much calling at all outside of BB I would think and also open raise range should be tighter compared to 100bb. But yeah idea in 3bet pots is that for example lets say CO open, BU call and we squeeze from blinds. They both call. At this point with pot sized raises its going to be close to 50bb in pot and we have 35bb. So we really dont need much to stack off most of time but if both villains are playing 100+bb deep CO will have to worry about player behind yet to act. So we should get more folds from him. Also preflop fe should likely be higher as there is lot less implied odds and also less space to take advantage of position.

But yeah as I said earlier rake is huge issue in high rake games as our stack wont be big enough to necessarily even reach rake cap. But with deep stacks all the money that goes in after rake cap is rakeless which can add quite a bit of value in big sample.

Yeah, rake %, rake cap and rake back all have to be taken into account.

As Ghaleon mentioned if you feel that you have a significant edge of the field preferably I would choose 100bb , 200bb if possible and u feel comfortable w that.
Shot taking w 50bb can be good.
If you like to train treshold for stack off sitution shortstacking can be a valid thing. 3way sqz pots you should reach the rake cap. Unfortunally you dont
have any feq post flop at micro even if the player inbtw playing 200bb so variance can go high sometimes. Its a good practice though. glgl

Thank you. Yeah I don't think people will fold enough. Which is why I wonder if 200BI at 50bb is enough to withstand the variance and emotional toll

One advantage from short stacking is if there are aggressive very deep stacked players in the table. At high stakes one Finnish pro (Jens Kyllönen) made a lot of money with that strategy. The idea is that when deeper stacks (200bb+) fight for the side pot and other one folds, it generates dead money to the pot. But as lower stakes it doesn't work as people tend to bluff very rarely in huge pots. And they don't often fight for side pots.

Short stacking is a way to reduce variance in terms of $. But instead of taking 50bb shot at PLO50 I would play 100bb at PLO25. If you normally play 100bb game, then suddenly changing to 50bb can really mess up your game. Preflop is very different, and postflop SPR's are something you are not used to.

What comes to bankroll, there is no absolute answer. You need to think it mathematically (how much I can risk of going broke) and psychologically (what % of my bankroll I can lose before it affects my game too much). And then if matters whether you have dynamic bankroll (you can deposit more in case of epic downswing) or static (you can't deposit more).

Mathematically you can go with something like anything over 30 buyins at current stakes is for taking shots at next stakes, if you just drop down when you have only 30 buyins for one stakes lower. But psychologically that is rough, as you might go up and down in stakes and bankroll. Psychologically the bigger the bankroll, the better.
