Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is UTG with J♥ A♠
Hero raises, 6 folds, BB 3-bets, Hero calls.

Flop: 9♠ 8♠ T♥ (6.4SB, 2 players)
BB bets, Hero raises, BB calls.

Turn: 6♦ (5.2BB, 2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks.

River: 5♥ (5.2BB, 2 players)
BB bets, Hero folds.
Uncalled bets: 1BB returned to BB.

Results:
Final pot: 5.2BB

this hand was played by a friend of mine and he postet it at the german board. but the answers weren´t very satisfying:

1 guy said: call flop, call turn ui, fold river ui. which is not too bad i think.

an other guy said: call flop, raise turn ??

third guy said check/raise flop for a free card... first i thought this is best but now i´m not sure anymore. but it hink i like the call/call/fold line best.

whats the best way to play that hand ? bb is unknown.

BB 3bet preflop so he most likely has you beat. You often have to hit your straight to win. The way you played it you got Turn and Rivercard for 2 SB (by raising the flop), which is the best line against unknown here in my opinion.
If he didnt 3bet preflop your Ace-high has some showdownvalue. In that case i would raise the flop and bet the turn with the intention to check the river behind to get a free showdown (if you dont hit your straight). He would often call the turn with every kind of draw.
Checkraise flop is bullshit, you are in position and not able to checkraise.
Call flop raise turn is a good line against a tight player, because he might fold AQ or AK against the turnraise.
Call call fold is only good when you have no showdownvalue and are playing against a player who goes to the showdown very often.

err yes. that was some kind of typo ;)

thank you
but isn´t there a big chance that bb will 3-bet the flop or donk the turn when a blank comes ? especially at this draw heavy board ?

Oh, just see a mistake, i meant you are in position, if you were out of position you could checkraise ;).

Of course there is a chance that you might get 3bet on the flop. Then you have to pay 2.5 BB (or 2BB if doesnt 3bet but donks the turn) to see both turn and river. So if villian is highly aggressive the passive call call line might be better. Another possibility is to cap the flop and check the turn behind (doesnt work against maniacs), which will cost you 2BB instead of 2.5, but will cost 3BB if he donks the turn nonetheless.

So there are many lines possible, and it really depends on villains stats. The more aggressive he is, the more passive we can be and vice versa. Against unknown i like the line you played.
