Pre Flop: (1.5 SB) Hero is BTN with 9♣ 9♦
UTG calls, CO raises, Hero 3-bets, 1 fold, BB calls, UTG calls, CO calls

Flop: (12.5 SB) 7♦ 5♦ Q♣ (4 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, CO checks, Hero bets, BB calls, UTG calls, CO calls

Turn: (8.25 BB) 8♣ (4 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, CO checks, Hero bets, BB calls, UTG raises, CO calls, Hero calls, BB calls

River: (16.25 BB) 5♣ (4 players)
BB checks, UTG bets, CO calls, Hero folds, BB folds

I think a thin call is okay on the turn getting 14.25:1 with 4 clean outs to a set / gut shot.

Is there a crying call here on the river given I still beat 8x hands and busted straight & :diamond: flush draws when the board pairs?

Or do we have to consider UTGs hand as two pair or better at least with the turn check/raise and therefore we only beat 87 - which isn't enough here?

Hi!

FTurn is easy call(4-5 outs and may even be ahead). On river i would most probably call since the pot is huge and just cant find a fold when there is something I beat(busted FD) to a single raise.

Hello!

Yep calling turn according to odds and outs is good as you have found out by yourself + you might be ahead here.

I would call that river as well since the pot is so big and you beat busted flush draws and 6x (busted OESD) and of course 8x excluding 85 (I don't think Q8 is possible).

Thanks Primzi... although I wouldn't discount Q8 because some villians will just call flop v c-bet from a TAG with a top pair/weak kicker - especially multiway.

The other thing that made me fold was I mostly dismissed the flush draw and OESD possibilitites on the turn because villian is check / raising the field in a four handed pot out of position - which is a pretty big semi bluff.

Hello!

I think Q8 isn't very likely because villain open limped preflop and I just don't see him being smart enough to play c/c flop c/r turn. If he is a fan of c/ring with a made hand he'll do it on flop with a Q almost for sure. When people like this have OESDs they likely go crazy with them (I've been c/red with gutshots before) so I wouldn't exclude it. For a better definition of his range you should provide us with stats - which everyone should post in the hand evaluation section if they have them. It doesn't take long to write down those few numbers :|. I still think we have to call this river in any case unless villain has like 0.0-0.5 AF.

Thanks Primzi... I deliberately left out stats as I wanted an opinion based on no reads - just based on play in the hand. I guess I was happy to modify villians ranges based on stats if the answer wasn't clear cut (ie nit v TAG v LAG v nutcase).

Generally I do add stats to my posted hands - sorry if not putting them in with this hand has made things more difficult for you to offer an appropriate opinion!

BTW sorry to labour a point but I'm not sure c/c flop with TPWK, c/r turn with two pair is necessarily a "smart" play - and an open limp with Q8s from early position is certainly not out of the question either. But I guess a crazy semi bluff with a strong draw isn't unlikely either. :f_biggrin:

Hello!

Well vs unknown it's a call on the river for me :). Vs different oponnents we of course play some hands differently, but you're experienced enough to adapt your game to different oponnents so it actually makes sense to wonder how to play a hand vs. unknown :). I'm glad you've got your answer though ;). I asked for stats because with them it would be easier to define a range + it says in the hand posting guide that if possible, players should provide the stats of the oponnents. Just a suggestion - next time you could post the stats and add a question "how would you play this vs unknown?" so that the other people who might look at the hand know how to react in both situations :). And the "because he open limped preflop" implied to that he is not a good player rather than Q8 not being in his range, sorry for being a bit unclear ;). But as mentioned before, Q8 doesn't decrease our EQ enough to not call the river :).

Good luck with your game!
