I go to a student night at a local casino for weekly poker tournaments and most of the time i get to the final table out of 80-100 people but this time around i was out first.
BB=50 chips = 3000
This afternoon on the first hand of the tournament i receive K

in SB position
Pre-frop
1 player folds, 6 players simply limp in while the blinds are tiny, so i raise to 6BB
4 players fold while 1 in middle position calls and another re-raises to 12BB which i call and the other player calls as well.
Flop = Q 
J

so i attempt to squeeze something out of flopping top pair by betting 4BB
the player that was calling folded but the one that re-raised went all in, i thought fantastic and called, and it was a relief to see Q 7 was his hand.
turn = 10
river = ace
and theres me out of the tournament, was my play entirely wrong and idiotic or was it just bad luck?
