Analysis
I cant tell if I played this too aggressively or it was just unlucky.
I had MP1 pegged as an elephant (using Hellmuth's poker animals).
This makes me think I should have at the very least noticed his 3bet on the turn and taken heed.

Hello!

Unfortunately I have no idea what Hellmuth's elephant means, but you have provided the stats so we can act according to them. First of all, I'd like to point out that you should ALWAYS have at least 12BB (in your case $2.40) on the table so that you can extract maximum value from very good hands like quads and full houses. Second of all, I believe that according to SHC we never cold call the oponent's preflop raise, we either raise it or fold. In this case, it's a fairly easy fold (you 3-bet 99+ if the raiser is in MP1). If you raised the hand, you would at least be able to put him on a tighter range than 15% of the hands (his PFR = 77+, A9s+, KJs+, QJs+, AJo+, KQo+), according to his action (if he capped or called). The bet/3-bet on the flop is good, on the turn it gets complicated whatsoever. His stats show that he is more or less a TAG even though his actions are pretty weird (c/r flop with initiative, donk turn). So on the turn, you are beaten by JJ, AA and AJ, AA not being very likely because he would probably cap flop with it. If he is a thinking player (even though his c/r flop with initiative doesn't exactly indicate that, or maybe I just don't know the pros of that move...), he will donk turn to induce a raise so that he can 3-bet. This means his range on the turn is pretty much JJ, AJ and maybe AK, AQ, AT, A9, these hands being less likely whatsoever. But since You can't be sure that he's donking turn in order to induce a raise to be able to 3-bet, I would raise turn once and bet river, or if he 3-bets me simply calldown unless another 6 comes, then of course cap river. What we learn from this hand is that our preflop play is very important since it helps us determine tighter ranges and can have an effect on the result of the whole hand. As for the "unluckiness" part you can try putting the flop and the hole cards in an equilator and see how unlucky you were that that jack showed up on the turn, he basically had 4 outs to suck out on you so his equity should be about 34% I believe. I advise you to read the bronze and silver articles and print out the charts + play according to them, it will be worth your while as your winrate will increase :).

As played I'd do the same because you're shortstacked for some reason (always have 12+BB).

If you had a full stack I'd raise the river and call a 3-bet.

Also primzi use paragraphs please Also 4 outs isn't 34% it's more like 9% and he had 3 outs not that it really matters :P Too much b-boying imo.

P.S. An elephant is a loose-passive player (I had to google this) although his stats seem quite TAGgy

Hello!

I beg to differ :). On river AQ beats us as well so we are beating very little and don't really have a reason for just capping the hell out of this hand, it's just not that strong vs. oponent's range, according to this line.

Even though you remind me of school -> teachers -> essay writing, I guess I could use paragraphs :).

Looks like we both failed here at the equity prediction, it's 23%:

Board: As Ah 6d
Dead:

Equity Win Tie Loss Hand
Player 1: 22,929% 22,929% 0,000% 77,071% AdJd
Player 2: 77,071% 77,071% 0,000% 22,929% 6s6h

But I was 3% closer :).

My calculations were based on the 4 outs = 17% equity but I wasn't sure if that meant equity till turn or till river. I don't really understand why it's 23% for this hand since he has exactly 4 outs, no more, no less (BDFD doesn't help him against our hand). Oh and about the number of outs...

J :club:, J , J :spade:, A :club:

Count them for yourself and well... maybe too much b-boying has some positive effects too, you should try it ;).

Hi!

4 outs will have 17% to improve either on turn or river but his clean outs differ a litlle here. He also has outs for runner runner pair( like turn 2,river 2) and he also has to discount something when he hits J and you counter it with a 6. That together gives him 23% equity.

Ahh yes, that's what I was missing. Thanks for the explanation dawnfall :)

Thanks for the detailed replies. Sorry I dont know how to read the stats yet so I couldnt help much in that department.

As to the 12BB in my stack, I dont know how I missed that in the earlier articles (maybe its not there?) but I did see it mentioned some of the silver ones after posting this hand.

Here is a link to the 'animals' if anyone is interested

(Its an offsite link so please remove this if it offends anyone or against the regs)

Hey!

Instead of using those poker animals, try this, it's more helpful and more widely used :)

Hi corsc and be welcome to our FL section. :)

I had to remove the link, not because it's a different strategy site but because there are links (affiliate links) to join a pokerroom for their profit. :)

I wouldn't raise the river anymore as he will 3-bet any better hand but may backoff with AK and AT and only calls. That means that we have to be more than 50% of the time ahead to make a profitable raise which I don't see after all this action.

I can't find the 12 BB rule as well. Pretty weird. :/ If someone knows where it it please give me a link. :)

Btw: Welcome back Primzi. :)
