Just read somewhere that you can only call a three of a kind a "set" if you have a pair in the hole and a matching card on the board, but if you have a pair on the board and you got a matching card in the hole than it´s called trips.
Is this correct?
If it is, is there something like that for four of a kind, which you can have by both having a pair in the hole or a matching card to a three of a kind on the board ?

Yes, your thesis for the trips and set difference is correct. As for four of a kind, we also call it quads, but as far as I know there aren't two different expressions for when you use one or two hole cards for it. The difference in meaning of set and trips is most likely because a set is a significantly stronger hand than trips (two players can't hold the same set but can hold same trips ;)).

didn't realise this o.O your alot more likely to get payed off with sets then trips. although paired boards are easy to bluff on.. so if you do have trips you probably won't get payed off when you bet on the flop..
