[Closed] The Wildbeans Challenge

In fact I've already started on this.. (and only just decided to make a blog about it)

So far I've used around 18k ftps, and I've been really lucky and made 6 tourney tokens.. I have one more attempt to get one more, but it's not important.

My first session I will play tomorrow night while I'm playing the iron man freeroll.

6 sngs gives me a lot of hope...

Coming top 5 in 3/6 tourneys is really very good. I'm quite happy with it, especially since I've made what I hoped for. I'll still do the second session to see if I can top this... maybe get a 1st place, but even if not, this has been a success, turning nothing (just about nothing) into over $500... (besides being really good for my bankroll)

I think this is quite standard, however I'm not sure how much I like it. The villain had been pretty tight even at this late stage. Of course he is quite short so he has to push quite wide, and I'm also quite short so I have to call with any decent holding.
However, I don't really like it mainly because there is no fold equity. He must have something he's really happy with getting called on if he's not pushing directly, and it's obvious he's not folding to a reraise. Therefore he must surely have a hand that is 88+, maybe AQ+, since other hands I imagine he would push directly so as to preserve fold equity.. So I'm more likely dominated..
However the thing that makes it almost a no-brainer (I think, and please correct me if I'm wrong) is that if I win I automatically go up a place and am guaranteed more money, as well as the fact that I only have 8ish blinds...

As I've never played on FTP I don't really know this tournament so if u could post about the prize distribution that'd be very helpful for my recommendation.

Ur right about his raise, for me such moves always narrow an opponents range. It's almost trapping by offering the other players an opportunity to get their chips in with better pot odds. However without a solid read it's difficult to lay down pocket88 for me. Ur stack is not that awful with 9BB so if u are sure that he is doing this with a range of AK, 88+ then I can't blame u for folding. While the extra chips increase the chance of u winning a better prize I don't think 30% equity is enough for a call here.

2nd - 19.5%
3rd - 14%
4th - 11%

Thanks for the input. I think you're right that without a read you can't say much about his move... I know guys like Jonathan Little do the same thing with their worst hands so that people will get scared and perhaps fold hands like 88..

While I'm waiting for session two, I think I'm going to play a side challenge.

I think what I'm going to do now is use the bankroll to play only MTT sngs and see how far I can take it. It's clearly not enough if we're playing with bankroll management so it's quite a risky vibe if that were the only amount I was going to use unless I only played $6 mtt sng's.. However I don't want to grind, but I also don't want to lose it all (for the sake of tangible results to the challenge)...

So: I will play a mixture of $12 and $24 mtt sngs up to the value of $564 (of course over a number of sessions) and see if I can at least double this amount.

I'll most likely play in sessions of 3x$24;s and 3x$12's.. Which means each session costs me $117.. I'll have almost 5 of these sessions.

Once I've played the five sessions I will reevaluate to see how much I've made/lost (obviously if I don't come in the money at all then I've lost the side challenge) and if I still have money I'll play as many more sessions as possible (then reevaluate again).

hmmm these challenges are a little too easy.

I came 4th in a $12 90 person MTT, and I came 1st in a $24 one...
so that'a $99 + $576
I also got 13 knockouts in $24's and 10 knockouts in $12's which is another $52 + $20 = $72

for a grand total of: +$747

In the last session I was a little bit more aggressive when the blinds were high. I didn't want to get too low on chips. This was probably the loosest hand, do you think it's a little too loose?

edit: I was lying down to sleep when I remembered why I marked this hand to be posted. When I saw it now I did think it was quite loose, and when I played it I thought it was quite loose. But the reason I did it was that the big blind was stupidly tight and I thought I would have a good chance of winning the blinds by pushing into him. however if I waited one more hand the big blind would have been very loose and I only had 6/7 blinds so I would possibly have wanted to push a very wide range in the next hand... I think it's an interesting consideration

for the 78o hand, you have to shove it there, with m=2.96 you have to push before the blinds to maintain FE, so, no, not loose at all, folding would be too tight there...

Couldn't sleep so went for the second session..

I'm still have 2 tables to go, but things haven't gone so well (1 table I just lost pocket 77 to KK taking my 7 blinds down to 2 and then 66 to 77 knocking me out)
In one of the $24 tourneys I was top 5 chip stacks the whole way through until this hand.. I think I just have to fold, I really really really didn't want to, but this guy had just moved to the table and I know nothing about him except that he can knock me out:

Okay so I busted out of 5 of the games, but came 3rd in one of the $12. I also got three $4 knockouts and four $2 knockouts.

Which is fine because it means that I got a return on the investment.

(By the way, at the end of the side challenge I will have used up the whole $576 from the main challenge and the sum of the totals will be what I have, hence I'm not subtracting the costs)

End of session 3. It was alright. Had some irritating beats, like my QQ losing to AJ, and a few others, getting knocked out early in most of them. However I lucked out in some hands to stay in the hunt in a $24.. Somehow I then managed to weasel my way into second. Which is good. Means I get over 100% ROI on the session.

Also 3 Knockouts (couldn't knock anyone out until the final table) for $12

Which means I've definitely doubled the original investment, with 1 more side challenge to go (a slightly bigger session since there will be outstanding money from the original amount - 4 sessions of $117 is 469 leaving me with almost $100 to spread over $24 and $12 mtts)

Around about $900 came from $24's and therefore around 800 from $12. So it seems that my return on $12 was a bit better.. Probably because I finished ITM more.. quite a few 2nd-5th places..

I was hoping to make a 100% ROI, just doubling the money, but instead I tripled it. I really think that's a fantastic result.
