I hit the set with JJ on the flop. I was chip leader but second largest stack put me on tough decision on river. I thought he is probably on 2 pairs i've seen some pretty fishy moves from him in the past. Didn't think that he is actually pushing with nuts so i called and on the end finished only fifth.

bet flop. you need to build a pot and protect against draws.

this makes is much easier to get the money in on the turn.

you have to call river as played

Bet flop, check turn, bet-shove river.

You should bet flop because 1. people expect you to c-bet, they may make a move on you or just call and 2. he might have draw like now and you let him get free cards.

Turn is more intresting. You can bet, but now opponent will fold most of his hands so there might be more value in checking turn and betting river, making your hand look weaker. I guess at 5$ tournament it doesn't matter as much and you can just bet all 3 streets though.

And you can't fold river. He can have many worse hands as well, like KJ, slowed TT/22, KT, K5, AK, bluff etc. Only hands that beat you are AQ and KK.

You can also bet more, especially on river. If he has the King, he is not folding that anyways.

thanks for your help. I'll try to play this better next time:-)

bet/bet/bet around 1/2 - 3/4 pot each street, ez game :)
don't slowplay, you will lose so much value on that board.

Hi all,

I personally like the check/bet/bet line with top set. I'm betting flop any day of the week with TT but with JJ I'm fine with your line.

What I hate is the betsizing. Once villain checks to you twice you should really be bombing the turn (2/3 psb+!) in order to set yourself up for a better river valuebet. As played on the river I'd bet closer to 2/3PSB as well in order to get max value.
