An Unorthodox Blog By A Conservative Human
My name is Verre. Some of you already know me. For those who dont know me well, it wont effect much of this blog anyways :P.
This blog has been about 4 months of planning. I have 2 previous blogs here, mostly going no where. I did not want to do that again. Not only do I cheat myself but I cheat anyone who is reading. As you read you'll see why I have not succeeded so far.

Poker History
Despite me not wanting to babble on about myself, I will give you some information about my poker past.
I started playing poker live in early 2009. Unlike most people I won quite often and fell in love with the extra money. In Canada our casinos smallest game is NL200. I won at this game, but never recorded anything to keep track of wins/loses.
Mid February a friend told me about pokerstrategy and I signed up. The world of online poker was opened up a little more to me. I had played online before but just donked around.
Long story short. I worked on my game on and off. Tried to take online poker seriously many times and always failed after a few weeks. I enjoyed donking around online. In comparison to NL200 the money I was risking was pennies. The key to this whole blog is when I actually sit down and play my A game, I surprise myself how good I am.
Since Mid April 2009 I have kept track of all winnings live, and the internet has kindly kept track of me donking around for a year and a half. Live I am up $4,237.00 playing NL200 and a few tournaments. Online I'm down ~1,400.00-~1,600.00 depending on some sites. I realized I had to stop donking around 4 months ago and this blog started to be born but I must tell you, playing a $5 tournament or losing a BI on NL25 still feels like fun to my subconsious. It has taken me until now to cut that off. I played my last donkament today.

The Unorthodox Challenge
So I have been thinking along time about what I actually wanted to play for this challenge. I had 3 choices:
Tournaments: Most enjoyed form of poker for all the wrong reasons. I love this form of poker because of so many bad players and because it is low risk high reward. My problem is I dont prepare well while playing and I lose focus too easy after long hours and go into auto pilot which eventually has me making stupid mistakes at key times.
NLHM 6 Max: Probubly my most skilled form of poker when I'm playing my A game. NL Cash games are high reward but I dont jump up and down with excitement when it comes to table selection. I have two major problems with this form of poker. I'm conservative by nature. Its a great skill when it comes to managing money but not a great skill when a pot is laying you two to one and your in a flip situation and you know it. The other problem is that I like to sit on early session profits and leave after an hour or two with what could realistically turn into a greater profit if I just kept truckin along.
FLHM 6 Max Rakeback Grind: Because of my conservative nature and the smaller need to table select due to small amounts of tables at required levels this is choice has drawn to me for along time. The problems for me is FL Rakeback grinding is unimaginative in a way. You can make a lot of money but it doesn't have the appeal outsmarting opponents with sophisticated lines does. The other major drawback is to rakeback grind properly at 5/10 I would essentially need to deposit my whole roll onto one site and not play any live poker.
With all that in mind I made a decision on what I was going to do. It came together like this. Because I have one month of free time and no idea what my life will bring next, I mise well make a one month challenge for myself. I will combine NLHM 6 Max with SCOOP and possible MiniFTOPS events. Here are the events I have already bought into:
May 2 SCOOP Event #1 $22 NLHE 6 Max 250k Gtd
May 2 SCOOP Event #2 $22 NLHE 2-Day 500k Gtd
May 4 SCOOP Event #8 $11 NLHE 100k Gtd
May 7 SCOOP Event #13 $16.50 NLHE Ante Up! 50k Gtd
May 9 SCOOP Event #20 $22 NLHE 2-Day 500k Gtd
May 11 SCOOP Event #22 $11 NLHE 100k Gtd
May 15 SCOOP Event #36 $22 H.O.R.S.E 50k Gtd
May 16 SCOOP Event #37 $22 NLHE 200k Gtd
If I manage to make a major cash in any of these tournaments you will see me playing in a lot more obviously.

Goals
Before I list my goals I warn you. This is not going to be like a normal long term goal thing. With my time limit and bankroll limited, bankroll management is gone:s_ugly:. Now so you know I haven't lost my marbles, I'm using it as a training tool for myself. After this month I will go back to using strick BRM.
Goal #1) Start with a small bankroll ($220.20) and use a 10 BI bankroll system. I will start at NL25 and will not be moving down at anytime. If I lose this small amount I will reload a regular bankroll and refine ALL of my goals to something reasonable.
Goal #2) Break the mind/money bond. I value money too much to make thin +EV moves that are necessary to be a high profit NLHM player. To attain this goal I will play my sessions to thier designated length no matter the profit I have made so far. While I do this I will conciously take advantage of any +EV spots no matter how thin it is.
Goal #3) Final Table a SCOOP event. Alright this one is crazy, but if I play my A game and prepare its not lottery chances bad. I need to take that major step in my big event tournament game.
Goal #4) Play 20,000 hands of NLHM 6 Max at whatever limit my bankroll allows. 20k hands may be a bit high due to the high amount of time I may be spending playing tournaments but whatever, I need to set a lofty goal.
Goal #5) And finally, the goal you'll all roast me for (please remember I'm having a bit of fun with this I'm not trying to grow this measily 200 bucks into a living), I want to finish this with $2,000.00 bankroll. Thats right, 1000% RoI in one month ♠_biggrin: I have full confi...... oh who am I kidding even I think this is stupid lol. But we'll keep it here anyways so I can fail ![]()
So goal rundown.
Maintain my crazy bankroll requirements for the month of May - So Far So Good
Play all sessions until designated finishing time - In Progress
Final Table a SCOOP tournament - SCOOP hasn't started Yet
Play 20,000 Hands of NLHM 6 Max - 0/20,000
Increase Bankroll to $2,000 - $220.20/$2,000.00
Wish me luck. I hope those who follow this will get a kick out of what I'm trying to do. The end goal is for me to break the mental blocks that are holding me back from playing online poker the way I play live poker. At that point if i succeed I will probubly turn my blog into a real blog updating on real goals and such.
