What makes you go in check/fold mode on the River ?(

Preflop and flop shold be pretty standard.

On the turn I think there is some merit to check/calling.
The J changed the scenario that we're now basically playing wa/wb since he either has a worse Ax, PPs or air (if he was floating), or he has trips+.

The J would be a bad card for us to barrel again with air, and with pocket pairs we might also more inclined to check the turn and probably call a bet.
Since I expect him to fold all his bluffs (floats) to another bet I rather c/c.
The range of hands that are behind which he's calling is very narrow whereas he has quite a few jacks in his range.

So I rather c/c the turn and reevaluate on the river.

As played I like the river c/f especially since he pots it.
I expect him to either c/b worse Ax or bet smaller to make sure we call QQ, KK and he very rarely has pure air.
So most of the time we get valuetowned by Jx if we call.

Thanks for your advice.

Suppose I c/c turn and he pots river. Should I call then?

I guess Bierbaer gave a good answer to that question. :)

I think I'd fold if he pots it.
I can't really express where I'd draw the line to make a call, probably somewhere in the range of 2/3 to 3/4 pot.

I feel like most people would not pot it as a bluff because a) in general peoples calligranges don't differ too much whether you make a potsized bet or a 2/3-3/4 PS-bet, so the EV of the smaller bet is higher.
And b) a lot of people simply are afraid of betting so big with pure air because they don't want to lose so much on a bluff.

Btw notice that if we c/c the turn and c/f the river to a potsized bet we still don't lose any more than by betting the turn ourselves.
But the opponents range is wider if we c/c the turn and sometimes he will give up on the river with air.
Maybe he even bets worse hands for value on the turn (which he would have folded to a bet) to get a free SD.

--> So it looks like you can even block bet river 1/3 pot?

I fully agree with c/c turn. And on river I see these reasons to blockbet:

1) if he has a weaker Ace, he can call (= additional value for me) but he will not raise (=no risk for me). If I checked, he would likely check as well (missed value).
2) if he has a jack, I am surely folding if he raises (= I lose only 1/3 pot and do not happen to pay him off 1/2 pot).
3) if he has an air, he is demotivated to bluff me now, since it looks like I am suckbetting on river. If he has guts to shove it over me then congrats and respect :-) But this way he will not bluff me most of the time and I do not get into trouble.

Yeah I guess a blockbet is an option, but I'm not sure if he could be capable of recognizing that if he has worse than lets say AT his hand is almost never good.

So if there's any chance he recognizes that and either just folds or even turns his A into a bluff a blockbet will be disastrous.

mhmm, he´s reg 24/19, looks like good opponent for block bet.

If I don´t block bet, I think he will check for SD value with AT. And he will call 1/3 pot bet most of the time.
He´s not bluffing AT on river - see his agression factor.
