Hello all,
I've received my starting capital about a month ago and I've been playing, reading, watching videos etc generally found myself immersed in the poker world :) !

My question might seem naive to some and that's great because I have serious doubts about how feasible it is to think about significant profits with the game.

Don't get me wrong here, I love the game: the math, the psychology, the drama :P and I don't expect to make any money so soon; but when thousands of players (that are potential opponents) study the game, play endless hours daily and even add an edge to their game with datamining software..

How realistic is it, in these conditions, to expect any significant profit?

Matt

There are plenty of players on this site alone that make a profit. Yes, there are thousands of players who study and have a decent understanding of the game, but for every one of them there are 10 idiot fishes blowing off their money at NL50 and below :) So there's every chacne of making a profit.

I'm up $60 on NL5 in 4 days Hopefully it continues :P

GL to you and keep studying!

I just finished now a 1 hour session playing 20 tables at NL10, and made $50... I didn't even run fantastic - the play at these levels is actually fishy enough so a solid player can make money over enough hands played.

Poker is definitely beatable

take a look at the monthly graph post. that has all the evidence you need.

Official July Graphs & Goals Thread

Where do you get those graphs and stats from?

poker tracking software which you can download from this website. The poker elephant or Holdem manager or Pokertracker. :) Very useful bit of kit.
