hehe, there's an awesome thread on 2p2 about this. I can't find it, but here are a few gems I remember: "I work in the shipping industry" or, "I work with retards" ♦
If I want to be serious, like when I applied for an apartment, I just say "short-term investment" (possibly the closest description). or something like "I work in finance", but that's so vague you'll just get weird looks and more questions
short-term investment sounds good. 
Too bad there's always some douchebag that informs ppl what I do instead of me.

EDIT: just don't say you're in exploitation business, especially when you're in a bank. The police had some questions that made me uncomfortable...
