do you think it would be possible for me to cancel/close my existing not tracked account and open a new one through PS to get it tracked? has anyone tried this before?

On PokerStars it is not allowed to have more than one account. However you still can ask PokerStars if they can link you to PokerStrategy.com, but usually they don't do that.
However we offer plenty of poker rooms where you can collect StrategyPoints.
