I feel like i may be losing value in these kinds of pots, you all know the situation. you flop a weak top-pair against a high VPIP limper, you probably have the best hand but how to play it optimally? do you c/c down? do you c/c re-eval and soul-read his turn bet? do you c/c and c/f if a scare card hits the turn? do you bet/fold, do you bet/call. Do you simple c/f and move on with such a bad kicker? Obviously optimal lines depend on the opponents, but usually we are facing a small sample unknown player, all we know is their high limping frequency.

Interested in starting a discussion on how to best extract value from these kinds of hands early stage. GO!

I bet/fold. It's easy to play later streets this way, not only because you should at least make it a heads up pot but also get some info on his hand strength. I think calling down can become more costly in case UTG is trapping. Turn play will depend on who calls obv but I'm not investing much more most of the time.

so your line is to bet/fold flop oop with top pair any kicker on dry boards vs unknowns? what about vs 3 or more opponents?

and if called, were looking to c/f unimproved with our top pair?

just trying to get an idea of how different hands usually play out

Against two or more opponents I think I'll hardly ever get raised by worse than tpnk but we still get nice value from worse pairs and draws.

In general I want a small pot, and line on next streets will depend on having position or not. More inclined to check/fold oop and bet/fold ip assuming river doesn't change anything.

Usually I will just check flop and if in this case UTG limper make decent raise I just fold. If flop goes with check it's usually half pot value bet on turn.

We get value from draws by betting flop, but problem is that we tend to be oop with marginal hand (when playing from bb in general). So are we going to fire second barrel on blank turns? If we check and villain bet are we going to call? So I tend to take maybe little weak line on flop, but by that also usually prevent playing mediocre pot with marginal hand and bad position.

that is my normal line as well, but i'm not sure if im losing value by c/f top pair weak kicker so often against unknowns in 3handed pots. leading seems ok, except when they decide to call you with what ever gutshot,3rd pair or air. and you have to check turn oop because half the deck hurts your hand I feel like many villains stab turn when checked to 100% because "he checked he must be weak, I bet" and then I have to c/f SO often unimproved.... hate these spots..

the funny thing.. is with 10BB effective stacks i usually just c/r shove with these kinds of hands and im pretty confident that is the correct play considering villain's probably range. but when the stacks are deeper......... this is why im a SnG player... anything >20BBs hurts my brain.

We might lose some minor value, but on other hand there is probably going to be better spots in future hands. Maybe even with some reads on our opponent :)

Yep this is the problem. And even if turn goes check-check we can't really be sure about our hand in river either. Villain might have just pot controlled with top pair good kicker hand(QT, QK). Jx might give value to our river bet-fold.

I bet/fold flop, re-ev turn and river. If turn goes check-check I'm calling most blank rivers.

Count me in as one of the betfolders. ;)
not with any kicker, but here you don't have a kicker.

so with T kicker + you c/c ?

T is close, esp on this board, cause I can't see him limping many hands worse than QT. Usually a J (in general, not in this hand obv) is somehow the kicker, where I switch from bet/fold to C/C, but that still depends on the board.
