Hmmm, I didn't put him on a higher set because he would have raised me probably.... so I expected to be ahead.
I was putting his range on a 2 pair, flush draw, maybe A9 or 9x...

1. Did I play this hand correctly?
2. Did I assign his range correctly?

On the flop his range is FD, any pair, 2p, straight, 23, 79, etc... On the turn I only see 85, 98, set, straight. 9x doesn't do that nor FD, unless he's a maniac. I'd call, against straight you still have 10 outs.

So

1. In my opinion yes
2. I don't think so, I don't think I ever saw anyone other than a maniac pushing on that turn with FD or TP.

+1
I would only prefer raising pf with any pp that I decide to play
Postflop I think his range is mostly two pair, sometimes straight or maybe also sometimes some flushdraws. Either way b/c with set is fine play there
