I know what you mean, 4 tabling FR is dead boring, TBH I think it is healthy to mix in both, multitable for $$ and volume and then cut down the tables to concentrate on getting better making the best play every hand rather than more standard moves.

Whoah. During this week I've been playing more Fifa 2011 than poker. That's going to stop now. Beginning from now, when my plan is to go eat at uni: I'll eat. Not play 4h+ of Fifa. FiretrUCK me.
-Note to self: focus less on stuff that doesn't matter anyway and focus more on stuff that matters. Easy game.
Yesterday I realized what a life I've got and how happy I actually should be and am about my current situation. All this while going to a grocery store:
While trying to decide wether I should buy mint-flavoured or orange-flavoured tea, I saw two girls walking hand-in-hand past me. The first one knew exactly where she was heading to, the second one didn't. She simply held the other's hand and walked behind her. Slow, short steps. The first one had an interesting mix of emotions glaring on her face: calmness, determination and a bit of frustration. It seemed like she was in a hurry but there was nothing she could do to pace things up. That's when it hit me. The second girl was blind.
Don't know if it was because I had been watching some videos on TED.com or because for multiple reasons I felt a bit emotional during the day, those girls stopped me to think deeply about life. It started from: "what would I be doing if I was blind".
Pokerwise haven't been capable of getting in the zone while playing during last days. Just wasn't on top of everything on tables and kind of just got back into the "let's get everything in pre or latest on flop".
Few hands from today's and y-day's sessions:
This hand was weird, didn't really know what I should have done on turn when villain c/r. Ended up folding, because I'd say that I make the least amount of mistakes in these spots when I just fold. Don't know how often villain is c/cing fd's on that flop since it obviously crushes top of his raising range. Villain's stats 15/11/5, 75 hands, flop cbet 25% (1/4).

Hmph. Just finished today's session and ended it by playing few hands of nl50hu. After spewwing a lot vs. two semi-fishes realized that I just can't play nl50 seriously anymore. It simply seems like play money atm. I'm a bit scared money on nl200 atm and nl100 feels exactly like what it is: low stakes. It feels great to pull of a bluff on nl200 (adrenalin), while on nl100 I knew that he's going to fold so don't feel anything after the hand. Still lacked the ZEN-zone. Going to try watching somnius' video before next session and see if that gets me to play more optimally.

FMP
From blog of Aejones.
This blog is inspired by this song, nearly inspiring me to name this blog "Who We R" (but my common sense getting the best of me at the last minute).
Okay, this blog has nothing to do with that song. Song sounds cool though and I'm guilty of not turning it off if it comes on the radio (and I may or may not be listening to it while I'm writing this blog).
No one writes about poker player except poker players. So, if you want to learn more about who you are or who you will become, there isn't a lot of information out there (with regards to your profession, at least, which I'd imagine is a big part of who you are since many of us discovered the game before we were old enough to legally drink-- and even more of us still before we were old enough to vote). It's there in bits and pieces, empathetic people are in poker forums and at your favorite training site. Few of us are lucky enough to have made friends through poker, maybe even good friends who you could see yourself spending time with even if it weren't for the poker bond. So, maybe there are one or two people you can talk to, a half dozen if you're lucky, a dozen if you're truly blessed.
It's too bad, because we'd make a great case study. I'm sure somewhere a psychologist or a sociologist has opened up their notebook and done some research. People who are given access to as unique of an opportunity as we are deserve to be studied. We come from all walks of life-- some of us are students, some of us are wise men, some of us are married men, and some of us aren't men at all. It's the opportunity we were presented with that makes us unique (and drives us insane).
You're reading this because you are interested in (online, probably) poker in some fashion (or, you're a member of my family, in which case I wish you had never learned how to use Google!). So, we've all got that in common. I know who my audience is when I write a blog, and this blog is right up everyone's alley.
So, you're given a keys to a world where you see people making a lot of money. You don't need social skills, only problem solving skills. You don't need connections, only internet connections. You don't need a Driver's License, only a LICENSE TO STACK. Okay, that last one was unbearably corny. I regret writing it immediately, but I can't bring myself to use the backspace button. Fuck it, it stays.
You get the idea though. The opportunity is there to win a lot of money if you've got the patience and the diligence to find the right game and be better than people at it. That's cool, and so is the idea of never having to wake up before noon. So is the idea of retiring before you're 40 (or even 30, or even 25). Lots of cool ideas, but what is the price we pay?
Collectively, it's tough to imagine. Some will rise to the occasion by struggling only a little or not struggling at all. Five figure months, even six figure months are easy for them. But what's hard for them is hard for everyone. How do we relate to people? How do we deal with people who don't understand us?
It's not easy, but you're not alone. We put "the Game" on a pedestal. Money is the way we keep score of the game, so we put it on a pedestal too. It's almost impossible to be objective when we're dealing with things surrounding the game, so we aren't. Maybe we think we are, but we aren't. Everyone thinks that they "deserve" to win every pot. Why is that South Korean idiot stacking me by four bet calling pocket fives? He should go back to playing Starcraft! He got so lucky I had Ace-King! [Expletive].
We are the best, our friends are the best. We do everything right, everyone else does everything wrong. This is not uncommon.
Perhaps a great philosopher once said it best when he said: "[People] fear what they don't understand, hate what they can't conquer, guess it's just the fury of man."
A second great philosopher once said: "Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."
These two quotes are indicative of some of the things we go through. Our opponents are evil. I'm sure many of us (myself included) have said some terrible things to people we were playing against. Things we wouldn't say in front of our mothers. Things about their mothers, perhaps. We probably told them they are poor poker players. We probably said they were lucky. We may have even wished that they die in a fire, probably one started with grease.
It's a bitch to have to harbor these feelings when all we should really feel is apathy. I know a lot of good players who are very emotional when they play. How can you not be? I find myself knowing I shouldn't be emotional. I can tell myself how bad my timing is on a certain bluff, that the momentum is against me, that my opponent is waiting to pick me off here. And you know what? Sometimes I win, and sometimes my emotions win. I try as hard as I can, but I can't be a robot. Every once in a while I think we have to let our emotions win to prove that we're human. We need a tilt session to blow off steam (let it be at low stakes please) or we need an intense session of weight lifting.
It's crazy, we have to hold in all of our emotions when we're talking to our family and they're lecturing us about how we're going to lose all of our money (or, perhaps equally as bad, they find out we've had success and they want to chat us up about their poker theories, or how they want to give us $100 so we can turn it into $200! Hey, at least we know that we've got some uncles that'll stake us!). We have to see the girlfriend at night and put on the smiley face when we're on a downswing. No one else understands, no one else has risked what we've risked, won what we've won, lost what we've lost.
And that is why that at the ripe old age of (insert your age here, 24 in my case), we've lived more than most have in their entire lives. We've been through so much in such a short period of time. We've gone through so much as a person, been forced to mature very quickly or get eaten up by the Darwinian aspect of poker. Some of us have reinvented ourselves dozens of times, changed interests at the drop of a hat, been one inch from selling it all off and going to live as a monk in the mountains.
I guess I can't figure out what the last paragraph of this blog is supposed to read. I'm not really sure what my message is. I thought about leaving it with saying, "it's all worth the ride..." but I'm not really sure that it is. My second thought was, "this game isn't for everyone..." because it isn't. So, I guess I just want everyone else to know that "we" exists. It's a collective group of poker players that range from failing to succeeding with a lot of struggles in between. Perhaps I'll leave you with one final, legendary philosopher who said: "You are not alone."

To the actual subject...
To re-iterate what I meant with this (even though, he's not folding but well, soulread anyway):
while on nl100 I knew what he's going to fold so don't feel anything after the hand.

I was a bit lost in two spot on nl200 though. Not (yet) soulreading everyone there. Again, any comments appreciated.
This was against a solid reg (MetalMoshingMad)who I battled some hu at a fr table maybe 30 mins before this hand. The biggest hand was a spot where he flatted my open, c/raised KT7r, betted turn 6 (that put in a fd) and c/f 6o river vs. my 1/3 pot size bet. Also I had a feeling that he was trying to push me around at the hu match. Also he tried to float me once on dry K-high flop with Q7s bvsb but was smart enough to give up after I c/c turn with QQ and river blanked off.
I flatted AK mainly to be capable of calling down on A & K-high boards since I expected him to be barreling quite a bit on those since my range shouldn't include AK. I expected him to valueraise AJ+, 22+ from utg mixing in some sc's and other trash. Guy to my left was a big fish playing 51/4, shortie from BB had 15+% of squeeze and others were weak/tight.
Flop play is obv. imo. On turn I don't really see a reason to bet esp. given that I've got the K:h. On river I think it's a no brainer valuebet but what should I do vs. the raise. I mean I'm beat by AJ/JJ/AA/77 that only make up of 2+1+1+3=7 combos (don't know if he's opening AJo all day, though he propably should given that the table was rather soft). Sometimes he might play a flush this way as well but I think it's less likely since he can't have the nutflush and he has to fold to a shove. So can I call here and expect to be good the needed 27+% of times?
Atm I feel that the call is propably a bit too loose given villains betsizing on river but don't know if it is in long run. Don't think that he's good enough to go for thin value with a naked Jx.

Couple mistakes from nl100 that I was so mad at myself after I made these. I mean, both of these were just rediculosly bad plays. From the end of the session and these basically made me realize that I'm too tired and not concentrating enough to play anymore. Can't really get wtf I was thinking.
Vs. a fish. Just didn't get that JT was an open-ender on the flop so decided to pay off the fish since didn't see him improving often enough due to that river. WTF! Speeeeew. I'm the fish, imo.

Besides those couple mistakes I felt that I played well for my standards. Also I'm rly happy that I don't feel as much scared money anymore after playing few sessions on 200. It sucks though, that nl100 seems like playmoney even when I'm playing a session with both limits on. But it was basically soulreading-sickness besides those two hands, nl100 feels still soooo soft. Just need to make myself focus more at those tables as well, even though I feel that I'm on top of villain's thought processes very often. It's obviosly very good to have such a confidence on a lower limit, cause I can try some funky stuff there vs. the better regulars.
Thoughts about session lenght and volume
I've been 4-6 tabling lately every session. I'm leaning towards six tables if I'm playing fr and closer to four if just sh. I've got a feeling that I'm giving my best game after 30-45 mins into a session for the next 45 mins. So basically my plan is to start setting an alarm to "wake" me up from the grind 90 mins into the session. That's the best way that I could figure out that would maximize the optimal playtime for me. It usually takes that 30 mins to get into the zone but after 90 mins I feel that I'm autopiloting way too much and just not thinking through spots enough carefully. If I still feel like playing, I've got time for it and the tables seem soft, I'll just sit out for 10-15 mins and take a break. Eat something, do some push-ups, use this:

or simply do something that doesn't need any brainwork to clear my head and gets me prepared to continue the grind. I'm also confident that this will not just improve the quality of my play but also the quantity. I'll be capable of squeezing in more of these 90mins long sessions since I know exactly how long it will take to play a session and that way I can manage my time more efficiently. Before when I started a session it was possible that it lasted 45mins or 3h 45mins so it should be an improvement.
I used to be very focused on getting in volume rather than just playing my best game, which is wrong. For the last weeks I've been more into thinking that Quality > Quantity. If I play 500 hands and try to make the most optimal decisions it's going to be huge for my hourly now and especially later since my game will improve so much more when I'm playing 100% focused and not autopilot-grinding. That 500 hands compared to playing 1,5k hands and not being 100% focused, playing with a lower winrate, playing more for the rb than for wr, making more average decisions is not the way to go for me anymore. Also the obvious, the larger winrate makes variance smaller, which will mean less swings so don't need to stress about moving down etc. that will be very important during summer if(=when) I decide to go pro for couple months. Of course, those better/great/awesome decisions will become my standard decisions over time which will leas to making more $$$ in long term. It's not bad to make $$$, is it?
Wow, now i see why u didnt had time earlier. U were writing book ♦. Need to come back tomorrow and finish reading it, or even in every day until end of the week. ♦
@ you: All quiet when it comes to Thailand plans. Ofc I'm very willing to get there, but the dates are still bit of a mystery to me. My best guess tho is that I'm leaving at some point in Autumn, and looking for villa's etc to rent for 3-6 months total. As planned, will be playing nl100 then, imo there's no need to be playing higher, even tho I can totally see your point there when saying you are willing to beat atleast NL200, and what I know you have kind of reached that already, right? ♠_cool:
Loved the pics, unfortunately ladies weren't like that in Thailand, excluding Phuket which is growded of scands.
I myself am blogging at PT right now, atleast until the scandal has been solved. Would love it if you had time to check it every once and a while.
Keep up the good work,
me.
For you it takes a week to read that, for many it takes a lifetime!
@IPoker4k1I
Checked out your blog opening post on PT. I've never even visited that site before... btw, don't have a clue what that scandal is about, guess I can't find anything about it from the forums, 'cause I'd propably know about it if I could.
I still think that beating nl200 (over a sample) is the minimum (at least for me that is) to start living in another country, regardless how cheap it is. Since I don't want to start off by running worse than ever before after moving to another country and then having to move down a limit and start playing smthing like nl50 again. That's mainly why I think an adequate br and skillset is needeed for nl200 before I'm rdy to even think about that.
So there's still a long way to go to get both of those to the level where I'm comfortable. And I would never ever concider living off poker with 30 buy-in br for main limit... I might be capable of doing it with 50 but preferring 65+. It's not that long ago when I crashed down 18 buyins in a week on nl100 and don't want to be in a spot where I'm threatened to go broke because of some std swings, ever. Not to mention far, far away from home. Everyone may call me a br nit but hey, I'm not the one broke am I?

@all
Saw my FT account balance accidentaly today because tableninja was lagging :f_o:. Was happy about how it looked but not that happy about how I felt about it. I felt that the money actually meant something for me. Which would be good unless I was playing poker... Kind of got carried away with thinking what else I could do with that, which sort of destroyed my mood for playing. Luckily that happened during the last minutes of the session, so it didn't affect my play by any means. But ehhh, don't know, didn't like to feel that. Propably I'm going to ship some monies to MB so that I don't have to see that again... Or maybe I'm just going to ignore that like a pro and ship some more? I know which one of those sounds better but yet don't know which is the best way to actually do that.
Only played ~600 hands during that 90mins mostly because was mainly playing sh. Tried to find new ways to exploit some regfishes and I think I managed to make some solid plans on how to destroy them at future. Don't remember playing as tight as today in a looong time, yet those nl100 regs kept donating me monies:

" For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the battle was lost. For want of a battle the KINGDOM was lost. And all for the want for a horseshoe nail. "
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life.
But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward."

My personal favourite out of all I've read while supposed to read something boring about networks:
"Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. And Today? Today is a gift. That's why we call it the present."
And to finish another tl:dr rant, for those who didn't yet know or get it: Kanye West & My Beautiful Dard Twisted Fantasy is the Ultimate Royal Flush.
I’m living the future so the presence is my past

Nah, I prefer the upper one :f_grin:.
Wow, just ended up watching HSP season 5 episode 2. Saw this hand:
Preflop: Barry Greenstein (prolly tightes plr at the table) opens utg with AA, dwan (the loosest plr easily) calls QTs from utg+1 and invites in the whole table.
Flop: T22r, Peter Eastgate who completed from sb had 42o and checked to pfr. Barry betted his overpair for 10k into a 20k pot, durrrr raised to 37,3k, everyone folds to Eastgate (who had made some very tight and bad plays on the first episode but was up a lot after somewhat questionable play vs. ziigmund) who calls with his trips, Barry comes along as well with his overpair (didn't get why, since to me it looks obvious that at least Eastgate has a 2 here)
Turn: 7 (putting out a flushdraw that no-one has), Eastgate and Greenstein check to Dwan, who quite comfortably bets 104,2k into 133,5k pot. Eastgate folds rather quickly given that he basically has the 2nd nuts (propably having another 200k or so behind). Greenstein ends up tank-folding with his overpair having roughly 150k behind.
On the flop I was like, wtf is durrr doing? Greenstein always has him beat after cbetting into 7 villains. Absolutely no real reason to continue. And after getting called by Eastgate, who's range in that spot is 22/TT/2x I was sure Dwan will just give up on turn 100% of the time instead of trying to push Eastgate off of an obvious 2x. But no, he ends up betting the turn and Eastgate folds having absolutely no idea what he's doing, while Greenstein realizes that durrrr could easily have a worse hand in that spot but propably ends up folding because he doesn't expect that durrrr is crazy enough to try to push Eastgate off of an obvious nut-range.
Sick, sick hand. Wonder how sick the look on Eastgates face would have been if Barry ended up calling and winning the hand. Absolute, pure mindfucking by durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Everyone may call me a br nit but hey, I'm not the one broke am I?
I have actually called me myself brm-nit several times in my blog (for those who don't know, we are talking about my finnish blog on finnish community forum), and for good reason ; since having no other incomes than poker, I have used 75bin minimum in NL hold'em, 500BB in FL, 200bin in MTT's etc. And they call Sharkie a nit...
When it comes to that Thailand subject with NL200, at first I thought that's non-sence, but actually I have pre-proved my visit there safe enough for nearly any disaster, even playing only nl100 then (as I have planned it now). a) I've got... what's the term... some kind of bank account for bad times? (puskurirahasto(tili) (would suck to use my money in Thailand tho), and b) Ive collected tens of thousands FTP-points, PokerStars FPP's etc (gonna get more) (to play some satellites, steps etc.) to prove me some incomes, no matter how bad the possible downswing were, and saved some good, valuable bonuses on iPoker (not me, the site) and ongame. But as said, I can see your point with that nl200 minimum, but like my system (what is turvaverkko) good as gold as well.
Great, you are/were following my blog on PT, but I actually removed it, 'cause me myself + kravdude didn't like the entry at all. Opened another account tho, and wrote new entry. Still not happy, but not gonna brag with biggest MTT-winnings as some might, just to get number of followers bigger.
GL @ the tables,
4k1 (pls, use this outfit when mentioning me).
Edit: man, I suck when it comes to english.
@ 4k1
I normally just copy/paste the nicks I refer to so that's why didn't shorten it. Your safety net (lol @ not figuring this out by yourself
) plan sounds good as well, yet I prefer spending my ftp-points to buy crap like new monitors, bonuses, exlusive wine collector's set etc.

Biggest hand of today, it's pretty sick to actually feel some rl feelings at the tables. Felt sad after running it twice and losing both. Biggest pot ever lost. I'm going to get it back though ♠_evil: Propably the worst part was that I didn't find any hand that I was losing to when I called off the rest. Nah, that's going to be the first and last cooler that I'll post in this blog. And even that is just because I wanted to show the biggest pot of my life :f_grin:.

Notes about today's 3h (2x 90mins)session:
-lacked zen
-felt slightly tired
-played well but not optimally
-wasn't 100% confident vs. aggro donkbet-fishes in some spots
-Played almost 1k pot, which definately affected my feelings, didn't affect my play though. Not 100% sure if I'm capable of pulling off sicko-big-bluffs 200bb+ deep on nl200 yet.
-no scared money feelings at any point (not counting the 1k pot affecting my feelings)
-small break between sessions seemed to work out as expected and get me back to 100% concentration
-I need to learn how to slowplay with nuts when villain(s) can't have anything
Whoah, just recorded a session for ge5sterne. What obviously happened was that camstudio couldn't convert and save it so I'll have to do that all over again. Super-frustrating. Run pretty bad during that recording but well did the most important part correctly: the decisions. Did some solid pwnage while grinding nl200fr but turns and rivers weren't rly my friends today.
Hand of the day. Versus a reg that insta-left the table after this one. Guess he was in some hyper-megatilt. He snapcalled my 5b :f_cool:. We run it twice and I obviously lost both :f_biggrin:.

Does someone know if HEM understands the "run it twice "-function?
Haven't checked my br and don't know how much $$ I've got, so a bit unsure about continuing on nl200. I'll continue atleast until the end of the month unless I drop 1k+. Obv. not checking my br, so just going to go by feeling when it comes to dropping that 1k, so it might be 5k as well
Are u getting coaching from 5Sterne? Or is it a free one?

Did some sicko bluffs yesterday on nl200 with the pure airballs ~200bb deep. Every vein was filled with adrenalin, felt sooo gooood when they folded. Especially when bluffing in a 3bet pot vs. a fish on my right who's wts was atm 74% :f_biggrin:. Someone might call that a suicide but I call that easy money!

Forget what I've said about scared money. That no longer existed yesterday. Felt comfortable all over the place, just played fr though for the vid (yet camstudio decided to collapse again when trying to save the file). 7-tabling might be a bit too much for me even with fr but I'll do that once again. Btw if someone has any ideas about what's wrong with the camstudio not handling the file saving, let me know.

Didn't remember that nl50 was rly that soft. Obviously the sample was a solid amount of 168 hands. Stats 32/27/17 winnings 12,25$ and 5,5$ under ev. Easy monies. Actually thought that I played a solid tag -style. But I guess it's impossible to have vpip less than 25 in sh anyway...
