Interview with Heads-Up Champ meistermieses

We meet the man who beat 'jakethesnake8' in the final to become the 2015 PokerStrategy.com Heads-Up Cash Champion.

PokerStrategy Heads-Up Cash Championship

Congratulations on your win, what made you sign up for this event?

meistermieses: I just wanted to have some fun and fight some good opponents. I normally play $15 Heads-Up Hyper SNGs, Spin & Go and Double or Nothings.

Did you have any strategies about setting the stakes and number of tables for the matches?

meistermieses: I'm more comfortable at low stakes so I played NL50, except in the final where I played NL100. I think I'm a good multi-tabler so I wanted to play as many as I can, the most I played was four against SpeckBasu.

Did the matches get tougher as the games progressed?

meistermieses: I don't think so, my first opponent SpeckBasu was a high stakes regular and Deliveranced put a lot of pressure on me. I only won that match because I got lucky in some preflop all-in spots.

"Everyone should challenge themselves"

What was the pressure of the final like?

meistermieses: There was some pressure, but I tried to ignore it and focus on my game. Playing in front of a live audience was fun and I tried to play a bit fancy for the crowd. I watched all the videos after and I think I learned a lot about my game because of the nice commentaries on it.

I knew my final opponent was a HUSNG regular, so I tried to play a normal solid game because I knew he wouldn't have any major leaks.

How much profit did you make overall?

meistermieses: I actually ended up down because of the high rake, but with rakeback I managed to be slightly up.

Do you think more players should challenge themselves like this in heads-up cash, rather than 'bum hunting'?

meistermieses: I think I have improved, but I don't know how much. People should challenge themselves because they learn a lot about their game. I'm reminded of the Insyder19 challenge videos where members challenged him to improve their game.

Thanks and congratulations from everyone at PokerStrategy.com.
