WSOP to be streamed via subscription service

Poker Central launch PokerGO which will charge poker fans for streamed coverage of the Super High Roller Bowl and World Series of Poker.

Poker streaming has moved a step closer towards the Netflix model with the news that Poker Central has launched a subscription service to watch the live stream of the World Series of Poker this year, as well as this weekend's Super High Roller Bowl. 

Earlier this month it was announced that Poker Central had acquired the digital broadcasting rights to the World Series of Poker. Today it has been revealed that, outside of the ESPN broadcasts, poker fans who want to watch streamed footage from the Rio will have to pay $10 a month or $99 annually. 

PokerGO is set to broadcast 100 days of live poker a year as well as having On Demand shows from a vast archive, including Poker After Dark and Face The Ace. 

This Sunday will see the $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl, featuring Kevin Hart, kick off the new product. The first day of the five day tournament will be free before switching to the premium model. The $111,1111 One Drop High Roller is another one of the events set to be streamed.

Subscription services like Netflix and Amazon Prime are the way the content industry is heading in most markets. The question is whether poker fans, who are used to free content on Twitch and YouTube, are prepared to pay to watch non educational content? We will probably have a good idea by the end of the Super High Roller Bowl.
