John Cynn wins the 2018 World Series of Poker Main Event

It was the longest final table and heads-up match in WSOP history and it ended with John Cynn as poker's newest World Champion.

The World Series of Poker has just concluded the longest Main Event final table in history, with a record breaking 442 hands which eventually saw John Cynn take it down for $8,800,000. 

The American from Indianapolis is no stranger to deep runs in this event, having previously come 11th in the Main Event for $650,000 in 2016 when Qui Nguyen won it. 

This time around he went a significant step better, showing some unbelievable resolve to win a ten hour heads-up match (also the longest heads-up in WSOP history) against an equally determined Tony Miles.

This was also the 2nd largest World Series of Poker Main Event in history and the 5th biggest Main Event prize, a trend which may continue depending on why you think there was so much growth this year. 

Special mention has to go to Joe Cada who came 5th for $2,150,000 after having won this event in 2009. Cada also won his third career bracelet this year at the series and now has career earnings of $12,929,041 making him a strong contender for the best post-Boom Main Event champion. 

There is still some World Series of Poker action to conclude in Vegas, most notably the $1 million Big One for One Drop which begins tonight at the Rio.
