Polk makes an insane laydown on High Stakes Poker
SPOILER WARNING - every season of High Stakes Poker provides us with a hand that will be talked about for years and this is the latest.
If you are not watching the latest season of High Stakes Poker on PokerGO, the show's trailer promised a hand for the ages and this might have been it.
With stakes at $200/$400, Phil raises from early position to $1,100 with Q T and is called by James Bord holding 2 2 and Polk on the Button with T 7, the blinds fold.
The flop is J 9 8 giving Polk the 2nd nut straight and Hellmuth the nut straight.
Bord bets $2,000 into the $12,900 pot, Polk raises to $7,000 and Hellmuth quickly goes all-in for $97,200. Bord folds.
No insta call from Polk and he clearly knew he was in a bad spot the moment Hellmuth put his chips in the middle. In his own words "I'm either dead or you have a ton of equity against me" signalling that Polk felt Hellmuth had the nuts, or at least a set/big flush draw that could outdraw him.
The other players at the table started making side bets on who had the best hand and Polk even showed his hand before folding to try and elicit some sort of response from Phil. But after about four minutes Polk did indeed fold the hand in what may have been the best laydown in the show's history.
