Daniel Negreanu wins his second high roller title of 2021

You wait eight years to win a major poker title and then two come along in two months.

Daniel Negreanu's heads-up acumen was really in question this year after it was revealed he had gone eight years and 12 heads-up matches without a victory. Then he ended that streak with a win in the PokerGO Cup

Last night he firmly put those demons to bed with another win in a PokerGO event. He defeated a field of 66 of the best players in the world to take down the $10,000 Event#5 of the Poker Masters for $178,200. He defeated high stakes crusher Nick Petrangelo heads-up.

This also puts him in the lead for the overall Poker Masters Leaderboard and in contention for the 'Purple Jacket' if his form can hold up this week.

“Well, this is the hard part about poker, right?” Negreanu said after the win. “I’ve been telling people for the last year that I’m playing really, really good, I swear. But if you don’t win, people go, ‘Yeah, yeah, I’m sure you’re just unlucky, right?’ So people don’t buy in unless you actually start posting the Ws. For me, it’s vindication of something that I already knew. During this stretch of the worst stretch of my entire life when it comes to luck, and I know this – from the Doug match to Hellmuth, to all the tournaments and stuff, I know the reality of it. But for the public, I think, there’s proof in the pudding. They want to see results. That’s all they care about.”
