Daniel Cates wins the Poker Players Championship
Jungleman wins his first bracelet in entertaining style by taking down one of the most coveted titles in poker dressed like a video game character.
When Jason Koon finally won his first bracelet this year it left the poker world asking who the best player still without a bracelet was. Many no doubt will have said Daniel 'Jungleman' Cates, who has just left that elusive club.
He has just won his first bracelet in style by taking down the $50,000 Poker Players Championship for $954,020. He defeated Ryan Leng heads-up for the bracelet and coveted Chip Reece Trophy.
Jungleman truly is one of the game's great eccentrics and came to this final table dressed as a character from StreetFighter (video game people correct me if that is wrong), with green hair especially for the final table.

"I said I was gonna win so I win. But it was pretty important because now I have more money to help the world and to continue a career outside of poker," Cates said after the win.

Elsewhere at the WSOP Josh Arieh took down his second bracelet of the series in the $10,000 PLO8 Championship, just two weeks after winning the $1,500 PLO event. That takes him up to four career bracelets and he becomes the 6th player to win two bracelets in 2021 alongside Kevin Gerhart, Anthony Zinno, Daniel Lazrus, Mark Herm and Martin Zamani. Arieh also made the Players Championship final table but the table paused after he was eliminated in 6th giving him the chance to play the PLO8.
In other news 845 people entered Day 1B of the $10,000 Main Event, 611 of whom survived to Day 2. That takes the total registered, with four more Day 1s remaining, to 1,368.
