The PokerStars European Poker Tour is in Copenhagen, Denmark this week, and 83 poker players decided to pay the DKK35,000 entry fee to take a seat on Day 1a (roughly $6,200/€4,700).
It is frequently the case with EPT events that the majority of the well-known players turn up for Day 1b. That may be true again for this tournament, but a few of the best-known Day 1a players did accumulate big stacks which they'll bring with them to Day 2.
What happened on Day 1a?
Steve O'Dwyer in charge - The chip leader at the end of the day was American poker pro Steve O'Dwyer. O'Dwyer's biggest career cash came from a 2nd place finish at the 2011 EPT London, and his career earnings are over $2 million. He'll bring 190,975 chips with him to Day 2, and other players will not be happy if they're seated at his table.
Who else still has chips? - Welsh poker pro Roberto Romanello is a former EPT and WPT champion, and currently he sits in 3rd place with 115,475 chips. American Melanie Weisner also finished with a top-ten stack and is in 9th place with 78,900. Martins Adeniya (23rd), David Vamplew (32nd), and Arnaud Mattern (40th) will also return for Day 2.
Who hit the rail early? - The most noteworthy players who played on Day 1a and won't be returning for Day 2 include Dominik Nitsche, Rupert Elder, and Danish favorite Soren Kongsgaard.
Day 1b will begin today at 12:00 CET.
