Amarillo Slim may divide public opinion, but there's no denying that he's done a lot for poker.

Indeed, back in the days when poker was only played by men wearing Stetson hats, Slim was making waves in the media with his legendary prop bets.

Beating pool champions with a broom handle and taking on table tennis pros with Coke bottles, Slim not only made a name for himself but helped put poker players in the spotlight.

Slim's death in 2012 only served to elevate his legendary status to the point where he recently received a mention in Sports Illustrated's "in memoriam" list.

While NFL stars such as Junior Seau only received passing mentions, Slim had an entire page of commentary dedicated to him.

Such exposure is not only a testament to his popularity, but should help to enhance the reputation of poker in America.

Marvin's transfer trouble

You know you've made it in the poker world when the amount of money you want to send someone exceeds the maximum amount normally allowed by a site.

While PokerStars is known for having excellent customer service, their transfer policy seemed to get in the way of PokerStrategist Marvin 'xcrash154' Rettenmaier recently.

After purchasing a piece of Jason Mercier, Marvin tried to send an undisclosed amount through the site's platform.

Unfortunately the amount was more than is normally allowed, so Marvin decided to email PokerStars' security team to see if he could persuade them to allow the transfer.

Considering that the transaction involved a PokerStars pro and one of the world's top players, we're pretty sure the issue was resolved and Jason will now be able to afford to buy into the PCA.

Trickett to marry

Sam Trickett has arguably had one of the greatest upswings in the poker world over the last few years.

Tournament titles, millions of dollars in winnings and a new Ferrari are just some of the perks that have accompanied becoming one of the game's best players.

However, behind every great man there's often a great woman and while Sam has been climbing the poker ladder, he's been accompanied by his girlfriend: Natasha Sandhu (pictured left).

Indeed, while Sam has won an extraordinary amount at the poker table, he won the ultimate prize on New Year's Eve when Natasha agreed to marry him.

Sam popped the question whilst celebrating yet another successful year with his friends at one of London's hottest nightclubs: Whiskey Mist.

Blom back on top

Viktor "Isildur1" Blom might have finished as one of 2012's biggest losers, but at the start of 2013 he's already started redressing his negative balance.

With the year barely 24 hours old, Blom managed to win $564,546 over the course of 1,536 hands.

The haul put him almost $400,000 ahead of the day's second biggest profit maker: Alex "Alexonmoon" Luneau ($177,588). 

The player feeling the brunt of Blom's rampage was Alexander "PostflopAction" Kostritsyn.

The Russian player grinded through 844 hands before ending his session with a loss of $570,116.

Also dropping money yesterday was: Eugene "FishosaurusREX" Yanayt (-$139,181), Kyl "KPR16" Ray (-$106,022) and "GOD OF AWESOME" (-$76,944).
