Adrian Mateos wins WSOPE Main Event

Adrian Mateos defeats a tough final table to become only the second ever Spanish bracelet winner last night in France.

Adrian Mateos of Spain has beaten 374 of the best players in the world to become the World Series of Poker Europe champion.

Just like the first ever WSOPE champion Annette Obrestad, Mateos wont be able to play in the main WSOP in Vegas for another two years, as he is only 19 years old. He is also only the second bracelet winner to hail from Spain, alongside legend and Main Event champion Carlos Mortensen.

Although he is a relative unknown, he has had a great debut year on the live circuit, winning two events including an Estrellas Poker Tour event for €103,053.

He fought off stiff competition from German superstars Benny Spindler and Dominik Nitsche to set up an epic 160 hand heads-up match with WSOP $10,000 HORSE champion Fabrice Soulier of France.

The lead went back and forth but eventually it would be the Spaniard's day, and he captured the €1,000,000 first prize.

Now all that is left for the WSOP this year is the small matter of the November Nine and the Main Event final table, which starts in just over a week.
