Aussie Millions - Howard Lederer wins the Highroller event
The ninth event of the Aussie Millions, the AUD $100,000 Highroller event, ended, with Howard Lederer taking down the title. Austrian Niki Jedlicka finished fifth.
25 players registered for the most expensive tournament of the Aussie Millions. The field was, as expected filled with stars of the poker scene. Among other participants were Phily Ivey, Gus Hansen, Chris Ferguson, Tony G, John Juanda, Erick Lindgren and Andy Bloch. The prizepool was AUD $ 2,500,000.
At the final table it was clear that poker is no longer exclusively American. Indeed, the table was composed of six players from five different nations. They were: Niki Jedlicka from Austria, Jeff Lisandro from Italy, Michael Sampeorna from Monaco, Englishman Mark Teltscher and Erick Lindgren and Howard Lederer from the USA.
Erick Lindgren was very unlucky and finished as bubble boy. He flopped a set with pocket kings, but Michael Sampoerna hit his straight, eliminating Lindgren. He then proceeded to eliminate Niki Jedlicka, who broke even with a AUD $100,000 prize for fifth place.
Jeff Lisandro was the next to go, and was eliminated by Mark Teltscher, winning AUD $150,000. Meanwhile Howard Lederer was slowly building his chipstack to earn the lead. Unfortunately Sampoerna won two large pots against him, but he was able to take them back to become the chip leader again before Sampoerna was eliminated in 3rd place by Teltscher.
The heads-up match began with a 2:1 chiplead for Lederer, and ended after approximately 1 hour of play. Teltscher busted with a flopped two pair, 78 against Howard's aces up.
