Awful slowroll or rookie mistake?
The Irish Open has crowned its champion, but it is a crazy hand from the final table which has got everyone talking.
The paddypowerpoker Irish Open concluded last night in Dublin, but the talking point may not be about the winner, but this remarkable hand which was streamed live.
Irish poker legend Donnacha O'Dea must have thought his two pair was good when German player Andreas Gann tanked when put all-in. However, when he finally called, he revealed he actually had the nuts. O'Dea, considered one of the real gentlemen of the game, managed to remain composed, unlike the rest of the final table who were disgusted.
As it happens, the Poker Gods decided to intervene, much to the joy of the crowd, final table and commentators. Gann exited in 8th place for €26,750 when O'Dea spiked a six on the river.
It does leave you wondering, was this a genuine slowroll, or was Gann just very inexperienced?
Ioannis Triantafyllakis wins
After that drama the small matter of winning this prestigious tournament went to online qualifier Ioannis Triantafyllakis of Greece, who took down €209,500 after a deal with Kevin Killeen heads-up (Who took €192,500).
As a paddypowerpoker online qualifier, this means he also won the Sole Survivor promotion - a last longer for everyone who won their seat online. This was worth another €50,000 for Triantafyllakis.
The aforementioned Donnacha O'Dea came 5th for €61,850.
