Canadian Open Poker Championship 2009

The Canadian Open Poker Championship kicks off today with the $5,000 heads-up main event.

The tournament features a best-out-of-three match play in which the players begin with 10,000 in chips and the blind levels are 20 minutes long.

Some of the professionals who are expected to attend this event include Phil Hellmuth, Gavin Smith and Daniel Negreanu. Last year's main event saw 64 entries which generated a total prize pool of $292,574.

In the end, it was Huck Seed (pictured right) who defeated Brad Booth in the finals to take home the $100,897 first prize. Seed has also won this year's NBC Heads-up Championship, proving he is one of the best heads-up players in the world.

The Canadian Open Poker Championship is a part of the Canadian Poker Tour and it's going to take place from May 14 to Sunday, May 17, when the champion will be crowned. Below you can find the schedule for the $5,000 heads-up main event:
