Ivey’s Divorce Drags On

When you’re a poker player going through a divorce settlement it’s not a sadistic dealer you have to fear but an unsympathetic judge. One player who’s currently being dealt a series of bad beats by the courts is Phil Ivey.

Ivey's ex-wife, Luciaetta, filed an objection to their 2010 divorce settlement back in September 2011, and now Chief Justice Nancy Saitta has asked for oral arguments to be presented before a full court as soon as possible.

The issue concerns a $5,000 donation made to Bill Gonzalez by Ivey. Gonzalez was the Clark County Family Court Judge presiding over their divorce case. Things were fine but Luciaetta has since argued that Ivey’s donation affected the impartiality of the verdict.

Both parties will attend a hearing to try and resolve the matter on June 4th.

Doyle Brunson’s Adventures

Inspired by the news that his long-time friend Amarillo Slim is doing well after recent health problems, Doyle Brunson has penned a new blog.

Doyle’s ruminations have become must read articles in recent weeks and in his latest instalment he talks about a back room game in West Texas that turned ugly.

The night started off well with Doyle and Slim cleaning out the regulars before heading to the bar for a few cocktails.

Things soon went wrong though when they were stopped at the door and challenged to another match...

Haseeb Qureshi Returns

Some would say insightful, others would say it’s another pretentious poker player thinking their knowledge of range merging allows them to philosophise on the meaning of life.

Whatever your views, Haseeb “dogishead” Qureshi is back and blogging in his typically verbose way. Indeed, he once one of the most feared and respected online players in the world but a multi-accounting scandal forced him into exile.

According to his new blog, since taking a step back from the poker world he’s embarked on a “ten day vow of silence” in an effort to “understand how to become the man I want to be”.

He goes on to detail how he is living a more “frugal” life and that he doesn’t “want to coach poker strategy anymore” because “that’s not his domain”.

A Word from the Godfather

Doyle Brunson has been around the block a few times and he doesn’t usually make bold statements lightly. A recent tweet by the “Godfather of Poker” is therefore worth taking note of.

Doyle Offers His Opinion

While this certainly doesn’t qualify the recent rumours, it does add more intrigue to the mystery.

Daily Signoff

Doyle Brunson might be in the twilight of his career but that doesn’t mean he’s lost the ability to teach the younger generation a trick or two.
