PokerStars running hot in Warm-Up

Marcel Luske might not have sampled the sweet taste of victory very much recently, but that doesn't seem to have dampened his spirits.

Known for his jovial personality, Marcel's smile will be a little bit bigger today thanks a victory in yesterday's Sunday Warm-Up.

Competing alongside the internet's finest grinders, the Dutch pro managed to overcome 3,667 players to take down PokerStars' popular Sunday major.

Marcel's route to victory certainly wasn't an easy one as he was joined by fellow PokerStars pro, Mickey "mement_mori" Petersen at the final table.

The Danish pro holds an impressive online CV, but after making his way through the masses, Mickey could only finish in 6th place for $23,842.

However, the day belonged to Marcel and after a four-way deal he eventually scooped $75,039 for his largest online win to date.

Pros confirmed for NBC Showdown

Recently we reported that NBC's Heads-Up Championship will return in January and we can now give you the names of some confirmed attendees.

A forum thread has revealed that Will Failla, Andy Frankenberger, Olivier Busquet and Matt Glantz will all be playing.

There is also speculation that WSOP Main Event Champions Pius Heinz and Greg Merson will also be asked to attend.

One player who won't be in attendance is this year's EPT Grand Final winner, Mohsin Charania.

Back in April the American pro banked his largest poker win; however, in a recent tweet he expressed his disappointment at not getting an automatic place.

NBC's $25,000 Heads-Up Championship is set to kick off on January 24th and will feature some of the world's best players as well as a selection of notable celebrity players.

Countdown to the BOOM

The long awaited poker documentary, BOOM, looks as though it will be ready for release in the next few months if the final adjusts go to plan.

According to a recent blog post by the film's co-creator, Jay Rosenkrantz, their current South by Southwest film festival edit is "not bad at all".

However, in order to do the project justice there is still improvements to make.

The former high stakes player has been working tirelessly on the project for a number of months and is now "living in the documentary editing room" in order to finish the film.

A number of complications have meant the film has taken much longer than anticipated.

However, both Ryan Firpo and Rosenkrantz are keen to put together a well crafted piece that exposes "the shifty, shadowy nature of the online poker industry".

High stakes corner

It seems that many of the game's high stakes players were busy spending their bankrolls on Christmas presents rather than at the virtual felt this weekend.

Two days of tame action allowed Sebastien "Seb86" Sabic to top Saturday's profit chart with a $101,300 haul and Eugene "oogee" Yanayt (pictured left) to head yesterday's leaderboard with a $90,853 win.

Indeed, such was the lack of action that Yanayt was only able to play 244 hands before the action slowed to a trickle.

Also managing to bag a modest profit in the last 24 hours was: Sven Niklas "ragen70" Heinecker ($82,028), "Lateski" ($74,220) and "The Liar" ($56,722).
