Vegas coming to Europe

Europe's Vegas style development is set to enter its next stage after Sheldon Adelson decided that Madrid would be the city for the project.

The casino billionaire picked Alcorcon, a city in the greater Madrid area, as the place to build his $35 billion casino resort.

Once completed, the complex is expected to comprise of twelve hotel resorts, six casinos, as well as golf courses and a sports stadium.

The project, which is expected to create the largest gambling site in Europe, could have an initial opening date of 2016, with the final construction ending in 2025.

While the latest step looks to be a positive move for the resort, there are still a number of challenges facing its development.

Aside from the testing economic conditions, a number of local laws will need to be relaxed in order to create the "Vegas feel" Adelson is hoping for.

Partouche final flurry

After a fractious opening few days, the Partouche Poker Tour main event is down to its final 14 players.

With the prizepool now set at €5 million, the remaining players will all be eyeing the €1,172,850 first place prize as play continues today.

However, one player who won't be in line for the prize is PokerStrategist Tobias 'pokernoob' Reinkemeier. The German started yesterday's session in the middle of the chip count but, despite playing a solid game, he eventually exited in 36th place and took home €24,993.

PokerStrategy.com's other representative, 'olekonjole', is still in the hunt for the main prize though. Having started the day as one of the chip leaders, he ended yesterday's session as one of the biggest stacks in the room.

Also still in the tournament is current GPI POY leader Dan Smith. The American started today's session in 10th place and will be looking to add to the $3.4 million he's already won this year.

WCOOP prizes

This year's WCOOP is not only about the poker world's elite players taking down titles and adding to their already bourgeoning bankrolls.

Indeed, tomorrow's WCOOP radio show will be giving listeners a chance to win a UKIPT Bristol seat worth £770 ($$1,200).

The freeroll will take place on PokerStars tomorrow at 4pm ET and all you need to do in order to compete for the seat is to listen to today's show.

The special freeroll is open to all countries but the prize is for a seat only.

Elsewhere in the WCOOP, another four winners were crowned:

"Ajoin21" took down the $530 Knockout event for $114,310, before "cnew27" won the PLO event for $51,931. The day's other winners included "(RIP)C.McRae" who scooped the 2-7 Single Draw event for $17,343 and PokerStrategist 'umumba' who banked $90,659 after winning event 17.

High stakes corner

Yesterday's high stakes action was dominated by "FaKeOrReaL". Among those being handed a very real loss by "FaKeOrReaL" were Matej "mtvdeuem" Cepon, "Odd_Oddsen" and Viktor "Isildur1" Blom.

$354,500 was enough to top yesterday's table but it was far from runaway total as "Chung ho" banked $314,300. He was followed by Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky ($234,700) and "patpatman" ($154,300).

A day of big winners meant a selection of heavy losers and when the final totals were in it was Gus "broksi" Hansen who took the biggest hit.

Over the course of 1,187 hands the Dane lost $301,205; an amount that was over $20,000 more than the day's second biggest loser: Matej "mtvdeuem" Cepon ($280,190).
