WPT Parx winner

The World Poker Tour's Parx Open Poker Classic came to a conclusion yesterday after 34 levels of play.

With 500 players buying and re-buying into the event, it meant the eventual winner walked away with $416,127 as well as a $25,000 seat in the WPT Championship.

Going into the final table Stephen Reynolds held the chip lead, but most of those speculating on the outcome were backing WSOP bracelet holder Chris "Genius28" Lee.

Things rarely run to form in poker though and despite outlasting Andre Nyffeler, Chris Vandeursen and Larry Sharp, Chris exited in third place and took home $158,450.

Phelps is a fan

His departure left Anthony "@wwwBTHEREcom" Gregg to battle with Stephen Reynolds for the title. After a back-and-forth, Gregg eventually gained the upper hand and took down his first major title when his saw off the of Reynolds.

WSOPE structures released

The World Series of Poker Europe has just announced the structures for its forthcoming poker soiree in Cannes, France.

Of the seven events, six comprise of 60 minute levels while the €10,000 WSOPE Main Event will have 90 minute levels and 30,000 chip starting stacks.

The first event, the €2,500 Six Max, kicks off on Friday September 21st at 5pm and the Series as a whole will conclude on October 4th.

Tony G is smoking

After a break from the felt to watch his basketball team put in a valiant effort at the Olympics, Party Poker's Tony G has vowed to return to the game with a bang.

In his latest blog the fiery player has said he's fully focused on poker for the rest of the year and will be making his first bid for a major title at the WPT Grand Prix in Paris.

In his own inimitable style, Tony said he will is looking to "smoke some shisha" as well as the competition when he arrives at the Aviation Club.

As always Tony is confident and ready for anyone who wants to try and "smoke" him in Paris.

High stakes corner

Viktor "Isildur1" Blom's recent departure from the PokerStars' pro team doesn't seem to have affected his abilities at the felt, as he put in an enthralling display against "EireAbu".

An 11 hour battle between the two at the high stakes PLO tables saw Blom quickly gain the advantage over his opponent. A flurry of twists and turns had Blom almost $330,000 ahead of "EireAbu" at one point.

The Swede then went on a downswing and dropped into minus figures before regaining the advantage to finally end the match with a profit of $212,641.

Mezrich to write online poker book

Noted gambling author Ben Mezrich has told CNBC that he is in the process of writing a new book about online poker.
 
His most famous works include Bringing Down the House and The Accidental Billionaire: The Founding of Facebook, both of which were turned into films.

His latest project is loosely based on the founders of Absolute Poker and focuses on group of students who amass a fortune through online poker but are forced to live in hiding in Antigua.

According to Mezrich, the plot is "an intersection of 21 and the Social Network". Mezrich also mentions that: "They were brilliant kids who built and empire in a way, and now they're being persecuted, because they did something to me which is very American."

We're not quite sure how tarnishing the world of online poker and stealing money from players is "American" but we guess we'll find out next summer.
