LAPC Heads-Up Championship: Day 1
After going through some changes in the format, L.A. Poker Classic Heads-Up Championship is getting close to an end. Many top pros have fallen short thus far, leaving space open for others to claim one of the top 16 spots and receive their share of the prize pool.
L.A. Poker Classic has reached a turning point. The first three rounds of the $10,000 Heads-Up Championship will no longer guarantee money finish to the players. Reason behind this is the increasedpopularity of tournament director Matt Savage's double shoot-out format which forced officials to enlarge the size of the field from 64 to 128.
The number of players reached 111, consequently leaving 17 players with byes in the first round. The whole concept of this change was accepted well from the players, with many of them appreciating the large starting stack, slow blind structure and loser's bracket that was missing in other high profile events in the past.
Quite a few players also managed to pull off three straight victories, including Vivek Rajkumar, Steve Sung, Alex Keating, Yevgeniy Timoshenko and others. However, there were those less fortunate for the day, getting eliminated entirely. Players such as John Juanda, J.C.Tran, Nam Le, Victor Ramdin, Eli Elezra, Scott Montgomery, Gavin Griffin and Kenny Tran didn't succeed to stay in the competition.
Remaining survivors returned to theirs seats on Thursday as the play would continue until the semi-finals are set.
