No online gambling monopoly in The Netherlands

On April 1st the Dutch senate has voted against an online gambling monopoly for government owned casinos

With 37 against 35 votes, the Senate voted agains the bill. The plan was to have a monopoly for the government owned casinos for a period of at least three years. During this period, they would get the opportunity to build up their own presence on the web.

The process was delayed several times by Dutch authorities. More so because the European Union has recently reprimanded several member states, who had issued a monopoly on online gambling activities.

In Germany, several privately owned company's have complained about the gambling treaty. The German courts have sent these cases to the European Court to review. The European Court now already has eight cases against the German gambling treaty.
