Phil Hellmuth writing his autobiography

The Poker Brat is penning his life story but will he cover the UB scandal?

One of the most colourful and well known stars of the game is to put pen to paper in an autobiography. Phil Hellmuth has announced he is writing his life story for D&B Publishing. 

With the working title of 'Poker Brat' Hellmuth told PokerNews that it is going to be about how he overcame the struggles in his life as a youngster, including bad grades, low self esteem and acne. 

Apparantely Hellmuth had already written about 70,000 words of this book in 2010 but then put the process on hold, so he already has a head start.

The birth of the Brat

Hellmuth won the WSOP Main Event aged 24 in 1989 and has a total of 14 bracelets, the last one won as recently as last year. No doubt this will be penned as a rags to riches story of poker success. 

Also, as the working title suggests, there will surely be a lot of attention paid to his volatile 'Poker Brat' temper tantrums that have arguably made him as much of a star as his accolades. 

But perhaps most interesting of all, for the poker community at least, will be whether or not he delves into his role in the rise and fall of Ultimate Bet? The poker room he helped create and promote, which became embroiled in the infamous SuperUser cheating scandal and did not survive after Black Friday. Hellmuth has always remained tight lipped and avoided questioning about the site, especially how much inside knowledge he had on the scandals that surrounded it. 

Needless to say, good or bad, it will be a must read book. It is scheduled for release in January 2017.
