PokerStars now on Discord
Refreshing new VoIP app aimed at gaming continues to grow and now includes the world’s biggest poker site among its expanding army of users.
Among the international gaming community, a new chat app has been steadily making head waves and has now reached 25 million users including, as of last week, a particularly significant one - PokerStars.
The app in question, Discord, is freely available VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) software and works on every major platform (Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS), as well as straight from your browser too.
Working as an alternative to Facebook Messenger, Hangouts or Skype, Discord uses considerably less processing power than its rivals because it’s only ever really connecting to one single peer at a time.
Another plus is users' ability to hide their IP addresses, an issue which has been flagged in Skype's gaming community in the past. And, here’s the kicker, Discord has the Twitch API integrated directly into it, meaning users are able link their existing Twitch accounts directly into Discord’s text chat.

Obviously, there are a lot of relevant discussion points for PokerStars players and users right now with SCOOP and the Monte Carlo Championship in progress and the poker room believes that Discord will make the perfect place to host the discussion.
It is also here that users can have one-on-one conversations with fellow players or interact directly with PokerStars employees should they wish to, although players are asked to save any customer service requirements for the usual address.
In a blog by Director of Poker Communications at PokerStars, Lee Jones, the poker room has also promised a series of AMA ("Ask Me Anything") forums in which Team Pros and other notables from the poker community will answer your questions.
The first of these will be on Wednesday May 3rd at 6:00pm (UK) when Jaime Staples will be taking your questions.
