Slowplaying Aces backfires at the WPT

Dream scenarios in poker always have the potential to turn into the bad beat story you'll be telling the grandchildren over and over again.

An early contender for cooler of the month took place last night at the WPT Montreal final table. Ema Zajmovic min raised to 200,000 with A Q and was simply flat called by the AA of Jiachen ‘Jack’ Gong, which prompted Kauvsegan Ehamparam to squeeze with A K, which got called by both players.

Normally the dream scenario for Aces, but.....

As was said in the commentary booth, had Gong reraised and Ehamparam gone all-in, Zajmovic could have probably got away from her hand and Gong would still have been in the tournament.

792 players in total attended the Main Event and Ema Zajmovic made this final table for the third time in as many years, as she came 5th here in 2016, famously won it in 2017 (becoming the first ever female WPT champion in an open event) but had to settle for a very impressive 2nd last night for C$556,000. 

Which left Patrick Serda to win it for C$855,000 (which included a $15,000 Tournament of Champions entry) at a final table that also included Sorel Mizzi.
