It’s been over four years since PokerStrategy.com opened its offices on the small, Southern European peninsula of Gibraltar. What can you expect if you come for a visit? We’ve collected a bit of information for you, including some ways for you to come visit the British overseas territory.

Gibraltar is known for being a safe spot for poker players and there are no taxes on income from gambling. The little piece of land, covering just 6.5 km2 in total, is also known as a tax haven, with “value added tax" truly a foreign word here.
Yet this peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, within sight of Africa, has much more to offer as well.
English, in a Mediterranean way
If you've ever been to England, then you'll notice many similarities between the British overseas territory and its imperial parent. This includes not just buildings featuring historically British architectures in the area around the Casemates Square and Main Street, but also metal benches and street lanterns with a decidedly British shape.

Policemen in traditional British 'Bobby' uniforms walk the streets, passing by gift shops and fish and chips restaurants – although Gibraltar already enjoys the reputation as not just an impregnable fortress, but also one of the lowest crime areas in the world.
The emblem of Gibraltar can be seen from throughout the city – The Rock, often covered by a spinning cloud cover depending whether the prevailing winds are coming off Africa or Europe.
It is the home to the famous Barbary apes, the last free species of monkey in Europe. The chic ocean village with its relatively new apartment complexes and marina, houses more than just pubs and restaurants aplenty.
It's also home to the Gala Casino, the hub for poker players and gamblers. NL100 and NL200 cash games are held every day, with a weekly £30 + £5 bounty and a £50 + £5 freezeout tournament.
If the buy-ins and limits are too low for your tastes, then the luxurious city of Marbella and its casino are only a stone’s throw away. Other magnificent Andalusian cities like Seville, Ronda, Tarifa and Malaga are only a hop, skip and jump away as well.

Visiting the small peninsula overseas territory is as easy as booking a plane ticket, of course. Looking to save a bit of money on your way to the Rock? Qualify for the Gibraltar POKERMASTERS 2011 by taking part in a tournament to be held on Unibet. There are a few open spots on PokerStrategy.com too.

To be specific: a £1,000 + £100 Microgaming High Roller Deep Stack event will be held from 9 - 11 September. According to Microgaming, the satellite events that can pave your way to Gibraltar will be running right up until the start of the event.
The package includes: The buy-in for the tournament, 4 nights at the O'Callaghan Hotel, 3 nights buffet at the Gala Casino, and 1,150 Euros for casino chips and travelling expenses.

Update 15/08: The Microgaming Network (to which Unibet belongs) has cancelled the High Roller Deep Stack event in Gibraltar. The information about the tournament in Gibraltar has also been removed from the web site linked above.
