WPT VII - Spanish Championship

Tomorrow, the satellites for the kick-off tournament of the seventh WPT season, the Spanish Championship, begin in Barcelona. The Main Event starts on Friday with a buy-in of €5,000.

The Spanish Championship will be the only World Poker Tour tournament this season to be held on European ground. Over the course of the restructuring, it was even considered to not play any WPT tourney in Europe at all. A small drop of bitterness still remains though as the tournament will not be recorded for a TV broadcast.

Venue is the Casino Barcelona. The final table will be played off on Tuesday, May 27th. People who want to participate in the Main Event either have to pay the buy-in of €5,000 + €300, or try their luck in one of the €200 satellites which start tomorrow.

Last year, the German Markus Lehmann was able to win the tournament and received €562,000 for this feat. He managed to defeat 225 further participants, including Gus Hansen who finished 5th. The buy-in was €7,500.
