PokerStars is finally bringing home games to online poker, creating a feature that allows players to play against their poker buddies.
Here’s a closer look at the home-games feature:
How does it work?
PokerStars now allows members to create a private “club,” in which players can invite other players to join. Club members then choose the games they want to play, and they play against each other. Only members of the club can play home games, as clubs are separate from the rest of the PokerStars player pool.
Can I use the home-games feature now?
It’s already been rolled out on the free-to-play pokerstars.net. PokerStars says the functionality will be working for the real-money .com site later this week. The next time there’s an update to the software, it appears likely that the home-games feature will be activated.
Does it cost anything to start a club
No, it’s free to create a club. Obviously, if you are starting a club on PokerStars.com, you will need money to play for real money in home-game tournaments and ring games.
How do I start a club?
From the main lobby, you click on the ‘Home Games’ tab, then click the ‘Create a Poker Club’ button. Then you just need to pick a name for your club and create an invitation code. An e-mail sent to you will contain information about the club.
How do I invite friends to join?
The person who created the club just needs to give the club ID number and invitation code to anyone he or she wants to join the club. If the person doesn’t have a PokerStars account, they’ll have to download the software and register an account. From the “Home Games” tab, the player needs to click “Join a Poker Club” and enter information for the club he or she wants to join.
Do all the PokerStars rules apply?
The games are run with the PokerStars software, so the “home games” are bound by the software. However, there is no chat moderation in home games, and the PokerStars FAQ for home games says problems with collusion should be taken to the club manager.
What kind of features are available?
There are lots of bells and whistles with the home game features. Here are a few of them:
–Club management tools allow the club manager to customize the lobby, set lengths of competition “seasons” and more.
–Leaderboards and statistics help track club play.
–Custom tables feature the club name on the felt.
