A steal is defined as a pre-flop raise with the sole goal of winning the blinds. It is usually done with a hand that is too weak for this to be considered a value raise.

SNG: The Basics of Blind Steals

Quote from the articles:

"It's always a matter of the risk/reward ratio. A blind steal
should increase your chances of winning the tournament and not put your
tournament life in danger. You need to have more than 10 BBs in your
stack before you can steal. There is no max. stack size for stealing,
but be aware that you may face a re-steal."

In this article you will learn:

  • With what kind of stack you should attempt steals
  • How big your opponents stack should be
  • What kind of opponents to steal against

Responding to an opponent's steal with a raise in an attempt to force him to give up his hand is called restealing. This is usually an all-in push, which you learned about along with possible hand ranges in the Beginner's Section. In this article you will learn the basics of this move.

SNG: Re-steals the Basics

Quote from the articles:

"Fold equity is the most important criterium when you resteal with a
larger stack. Both stacks, yours and your opponents, must be large
enough for your push to give him less than 2:1 odds. Your raise should
be at least pot size, preferably more.

You need at least 11 BBs to resteal to generate sufficient fold equity after a 3 BB steal from the BU."

In this article you will learn:

  • Against what opponents to re-steal
  • With what kind of hands to re-steal
