Right now partypoker are hosting the APAT World Championship of Amateur Poker until July 3. It is a hybrid of online and live events taking place on partypoker and at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham.
It may be for amateurs but the prize pools certainly are not. The online portion of the series concludes with a $75,000 guaranteed 8-Max Championship with a $109 entry fee and the live Main Event is a £150 multi flight event.
The live portion is particularly exciting if you like unusual formats for low buy-ins. It includes a Team Championship, Short Deck, Win the Button, Shootouts, Mix Max and Round of Each events.
Who are APAT?
APAT are a long standing tour dedicated to amateur poker players, promising them good structures and less common formats for affordable entry fees.
They offer Olympic style Gold/Silver/Bronze medals for their events and have previously lobbied for poker to be considered for the Olympics as a mind sport.
A lot of high profile players first cut their teeth in APAT tournaments including Liv Boeree, Chris Moorman and Niall Farrell.
Exclusive raffle - how long will Barry last?
Our editor Barry Carter is playing the $109 WCOAP #11 8-Max Championship this Sunday and we are raffling away some tickets to play in the same event for anyone who predicts how long he will last.
Your name will be put into an initial raffle just for entering where two WCOAP #11 tickets will be awarded on Friday, so you can play along with him. After that anyone who predicts how long he lasts will have their names in a second raffle to win P$100.
All you have to do is:
- Post in this thread to opt in
- Put your partypoker log-in name in the thread (you do not need to be tracked to PokerStrategy)
- Put Day 1 or Day 2 for your prediction how long Barry lasts
- On Friday June 24 two winners will be announced in the thread and their tickets credited to play in WCOAP #11 on Sunday June 26 at 20:05 BST
- On Monday June 27 one winner will be announced in the thread out of the correct prediction makers to win P$100
