WPT World Championship Starts Today

It marks the climax of the World Poker Tour’s tenth season and signals the start of a summer full of high quality poker action.

This year’s WPT World Championship returns to the Bellagio today for what promises to be a sensational week of poker.

With every poker pro the right side of a $25,000 bankroll ready to take their shot, it looks as though last year’s total of 220 runners could be broken.

This Time Last Year

Seiver's $1,618,344 win

When the credits finished rolling in last season’s finale, it was Scott Seiver who stood centre stage as the star of the show.

His epic performance saw him outlast a stellar field of players, including former PCA champion Galen Hall (3rd) and triple WSOP winner Farzad Bonyadi.

Seiver’s seminal moment came when he turned the second nuts against Bonyadi.

A min raise from Seiver kicked of the action pre-flop, before the pair watched the dealer burn and turn a flop.

A series of checks took the action to the river, leaving the action open for someone to fire at the board. 

Seiver was the first to take a 600,000 stab at the pot, before Bonyadi fired back with a 1,600,000 raise. Seiver moved all-in with , leaving Bonyadi to take a moment before calling with .

Seeing he’d lost Bonyadi took a bow and graciously exited stage left. Seiver, meanwhile, basked in the glory before being mobbed by his fans.

WPT World Championship 2012

This time around the organisers are keen to top last year’s $5,309,500 prizepool by keeping registration open until midway through Day 3 (level 12).

In total there will be eight days of action, as well as a three-day, $100,000 Super High Roller event (May 23rd).

Will an already shining star burn brighter this year? Or will a plucky extra steal the show?
