Sun Sets on SCOOP 2012

Bring on next year's SCOOP

One player who will certainly remember PokerStars' SCOOP 2012 is Shaun Deeb. The American, who once retired from online poker, managed to win a record-breaking four SCOOP titles.

On top of that he reached eight final tables, made $237,528 in prize money and finished first in both the high buy-in and overall leaderboards.

However, Deeb wasn’t the only big winner of the series as a number of other players also enjoyed success.

“GripDsNuttz” won the most money overall with $814,079. In addition to that there were a host of multiple title winners, including: Viktor “Isildur1” Blom (2), “bleu329” (2), Drew M Scott (2) and “joacowalter” (2).

Canada was the most successful nation with a total of 20 champions and $10,330,331 in collective prize money. They were closely followed by the UK (16 champions + $7,048,947) and Germany (9 champions + $5,721,034).

Stealing chips with a well-timed river check-raise is one way of boosting your bankroll, but if you’re Michael Quinn Belton there’s another: theft.

The 24 year old American was involved in an attempted robbery yesterday at the Bellagio.

Don't mess with Bellagio security

Dressed in a wig and sunglasses, Belton and his partner “Carlos”, walked in the high stakes blackjack area and made a move for the chips.

After snatching $115,000 worth of chips, the pair fled but Belton was quickly apprehended by the casino’s security team.

What Do You Think of Phil Hellmuth?

Love him, hate him or just don’t care about him, Phil Hellmuth would like you to tell him via his new website.

The online portal is a haven for all things Phil Hellmuth, with everything from photos and strategy advice to a lifestyle section and forum.

Some members of the community have already taken up Phil’s request to be as honest as possible, with one poster writing: "I SIGNED UP BECAUSE YOU WANTED PEOPLE TO TELL YOU WHAT WE THINK OF YOU......WELL....I LOVE YOU PHIL HELLMUTH!"

WPT Bubble Time

It seems that picking up a new sponsor has had a positive effect on “Mad” Marvin Rettenmaier at the WPT World Championship.

Party Poker's new pro bagged up the second largest chip stack at the close of play yesterday.

Marvin’s 1,870,000 put him 500,000 chips ahead of Nick Schulman, but just under 100,000 behind the chip leader Hafiz Khan.

Another interesting twist on Day 4 was the decision to end the session on the bubble. Despite player's protests, the Tournament Director ordered the final hand to be dealt with just 19 players left.

High Stakes Corner

Jens is taking a shot

PokerStrategist Jens jenskyllonen Kyllonen has confirmed that he will be playing this year’s $1 million One Drop event at the WSOP.

The high stakes cash game player recently spoke to Finnish poker site, Pokerisivut, and stated his intentions to play.

During the interview he said he’s decision was prompted by a successful cash game run this year and the uniqueness of the tournament.

He also went on to say:

"At the moment I plan to pay the whole buy-in ($1 million) myself, but I might sell shares later on. The most important reason for me to play this tournament is the chance to take the lead from Juha Helppi in the Finnish All Time Money List."
