The biggest Bad Beat Jackpot in history was won this week
Quad Tens were no good, but the loser will have been very happy after getting the lion's share of over $2 million!
History was made on Wednesday night as the PlayGround Poker Club in Canada dealt a hand to win the biggest Bad Beat Jackpot in poker history.
The previous record was CAD$2.2 million ($1.64 million USD) and was dealt at the very same venue in June 2022. This time around CAD$2,590,185 ($1.9 million USD) was awarded.
The board read 8TT72 and the lucky 'loser' tabled TT for Quad tens, only to be beaten by 69 (insert your own immature joke here) for the straight flush.
To qualify for the jackpot Quads have to be beaten. To begin with, Quad Aces has to be beaten, but four weeks later Quad Kings can be beaten, and so on, until 49 months later if no jackpot has been won, Quad Twos is the minimum requirement. Both hands must use both hole cards and Quads needs to be made with a pocket pair.
No official word on the payouts yet, but it is likely to be something like this:
- Hand loser gets CAD$891,370
- Hand winner gets CAD$445,685
- The rest of the table shares CAD$445,685
- Everyone playing Bad Beat Jackpot tables in the card room at the time shares CAD$445,685
There will also have been a 5% deduction on every payout for the card room staff, working out to CAD$111,421.25.
The Bad Beat Jackpot at the PlayGround has since been reset to $700,000.
