WPT Macau cancelled
What could have been a high stakes extravaganza is no more as next month's WPT Macau has been cancelled.
Earlier this year the first-ever WPT Macau was announced, and it looked like it could have been a game-changer. The first 'major' in Las Vegas's biggest competitor is known for it's high roller scene, and brazenly at the same time as the World Series of Poker.
Poker travellers will have to wait, however, as this week it was announced the event would no longer take place.
A short statement from the World Poker Tour simply said the event was not moving forward:

WPT Macau, which was scheduled to take place in June, will not move forward. WPT, Wynn Macau, and Allied Gaming and Entertainment regret any inconvenience or disappointment for players from around the world who were planning to travel…

No reason was given for why the event was cancelled. This was the WPT's third event in Asia in 2024, having previously run a very successful WPT Cambodia and WPT Korea. However, earlier this month the World Poker Tour cancelled their 'WPT Vietnam - Passport to the World Championship' event. This was one of many poker events that has been cancelled in Vietnam over the last few months, after not receiving all the regulatory approvals they needed.
